There goes many a Pats fans binky at RB

No way NE was going to even sniff that $$$ in contract dollars for Bush.

Now that Bush is a Bear that may mean Marion Barber is going to be released...any interest with Barber here perhaps at a reasonable price?

Use #62...and go get Jonathan Stewart.......simple. The RB corps is filled with minimum wage/rookie contract guys. Go get a 3 down bruiser stud and let this offense be a balanced juggernaut....Stewart is the last piece to the puzzle. NO WAY BB goes into the season without out an addition to the RB corps

Relax and sit back and wait ...

There are plenty of available RB's that can fill that veteran prescence that won't cost a #2 pick in this years draft.

We need a serviceable back that can handle 10-15 carries a game ... thats it! If he can play special teams too, thats a bonus!

I would say that maybe the pats could sniff around Matt Forte, but the bears will be in no hurry.....the franchise tag amount for an RB is only 7.7M

This might signal that Forte will be available

There is no way that the Pats are in the market for a 3 down RB. They have 2 excellent candidates for the position in Ridley and Vareen, and neither would cost any more cap space and/or draft picks. However PFP does bring up a name that fits the RB needs the Pats DO have. We need a GL/SY RB that can also add depth. Barber might just fit that bill, and when he's released, He's the big thumper who has a skill set that's missing right now. SY/GL and depth. Perfect

Well I liked him but certainly not for that $$$.

Good Patriot fans, Bear fan here. Question: with 2 first round picks, restructuring Brady's deal, not to mention losing BJGE, do you think NE would be interested in Forte?

Sorry, Quik, but the Pats are never going to spend top dollar (and that's what it would take to sign him) on any running back. even one as productive as Forte. In fact doubt they'd pay Bush money for a RB.....let alone pay that kind of money AND give the Bears a first round pick.,

However if you want to wait around here and get some Pats fans input, I'm sure you'll find several who would do that deal all day. ;) Of course those are the guys who don't run NFL clubs, but Fantasy Football teams.

Last season the Pats made it to the superbowl paying their top RB- (BJGE) $1.8MM, and they wouldn't pay him more than that this year. They are NOT going to pay Forte $6-8MM/yr for 3-4 years to get the same end result.

Its not about the offense here, Quik, its about building a better defense.....and its getting closer

No. I don't think they'll trade a 1st round pick for any running back. Ridley showed a lot of potential last year, and they also have Woodhead. Add in another prospect in Vereen, and I seriously doubt they'll draft any RB higher than the 4th round, if they draft one at all.

Thanks for the quick replies.

No one can argue against the Patriots formula of success, your team has been champion & contenders for over a decade. However, looking at the last 2 superbowl losses, such a great offense putting up 17 & 14 points, I thought may be a time to change it up a bit. Great thing about Forte is his receiving as well. As a Bear fan I'd hate to lose him obviously, but I'm also curious if Pats nation feels its time to invest more in RB for better "balance".

I'll start by saying I personally LOVE Forte's skill set. He would be the missing piece of a devastating hurry up attack with Welker, Lloyd, Gronk and Hernandez. That offense would be FAR superior to the 2011 offense considering the upgrades at WR2 and RB.

However we have already spent money on skill players (Lloyd, Gonzalez and Stallworth) and the defense needs to be helped by our remaining assets (cap space and draft picks). Using a 1st and most of our cap space on Forte would not be smart and the team would have a couple bad players on defense.

Just for the sake of discussion - would the bears do Welker for Forte?

You might laugh but...the Bears love their slot guys, I can vouch for Bennett being a stud but they do like Hester & Knox as well. We also have Sanzenbacher, who Bears nation likes to compare with Welker:lol2: so...no I doubt they make that trade.

I love Bush good sigining for the Bears, Im disappointed we dont get the bruiser I have been after for a few years. I think Ridley is now the man.

so lemme get this straight...plunk down #62 to get a 3 down RB, when this league is now pass centric, and Pats team is likely to pass for 5000 yards again with Lloyd, Welker, Gronk, AH, Branch, Stinko, and to top it off two young RB's in Ridley and Vereen to go with Woodhead.

Maybe I missed the memo but RB is now the least valuable position in an offense. This now a QB-WR-TE era.

Giants were the most pathetic rushing offense in the league last year, and won the SB. RB position is now absolutely worthless, especially when you see likes of UDFA Woodhead, BJGE making a SB team, or guy like Arian Foster another UDFA winning rushing title
