There are some pretty good short term options out there.....

Addai
R brown

The one I like is Kevin smith for one year. If he can stay healthy, he will be in a mark Anderson situation to get a much bigger paycheck than if he re ups with the lions now.

Michael Bush is the FA I'd like, although I think Ridley will be Benny's replacement.

I'm not a huge Addai fan. I know he wasnt in the best run team enviroment with Manning being QB but he has never impressed me as a pure runner. I may be wrong though.

None really. Either a rookie or no one...

RB/FB's under contract for the coming season:
Danny Woodhead, Stevan Ridley, Shane Vereen, Lousaka Polite, Eric Kettani

I like who the Patriots have on the roster. Ridley or Vereen.

I think we need a veteran RB to replace BJGE. Ideally I would like Michael Bush, but realistically I wouldn't mind taking a shot at someone like Justin Forsett. He's only 26 and has very little wear for a RB. He averaged 5.4 and 4.4 YPC in 2009 and 2010 before having his carries significantly diminished in 2011. I think he is worth a shot.

That's not shallow depth, that's a tea saucer. Polite and Kettani equal zero at this point in terms of lugging the rock, and while the first three have skill, only Woodhead is proven. I'd be shocked if the Pats don't bring in a vet, or two, off the scrap heap and try them out in camp. How much does Jacobs want? Is Ronnie Brown finished? Could you squeeze another surprise out of Kevin Smith? Could Ryan Grant shine on 4-8 plays/game and provide short term insurance if disaster strikes? Most of these guys will not see very much $$ thrown their way so they might just decide playing for nothing for Pats beats playing for nothing elsewhere.

I like Tim Hightower who has many of the characteristics as BJGE. Good balance, hits the hole hard and he can move the pile. He's a decent pass blocker just not a home run running back but neither was Benny.

Still need a vet RB .... I like Kevin Smith because he could prove himself and is young nough to earn a big del next year.

We need 150-200 carries

I'd like someone who will catch 20-30 passes

My main problem with this is that what are the costs of any of these guys? Brown, Jacobs, Grant, Smith in comparison to what the bengals have given BJGE? Not much difference I wouldn't think, so why not just have kept BJGE? Also I want to see Ridley and Vereen develop.

I personally like Tim Hightower. But I do see a chance to pick up some some late round draft choice as a RB. Someone who can hit the hole and catch passes. I think that was one of the weaknesses of BJGE. BTW ....isnt Kevin Faulk....still on the roster :p

Every team would but we need to replace BJGE ... we have backfield pass catchers already.

I want any RB the pats have to be a consistent viable target in the passing game. at least as long as brady is here.....guys like BJGE and Maroney made it too easy to defend the offense since they were never really an option that way.

I've made my admiration for Jonathan Stewart known for years. There's no need for me to make it known in another thread. ;)

It's mandatory than an RB be at least one of a pass blocker or pass catcher.

It's preferable that he be both.

Point taken ... but those guys make more money and Bill's probably not willing to pay more than 1 to 1.5 million if even that. If he's squeezing the budget to fit in Wallace then it's going to be a vet minimum guy.

They can also do their homework and find someone in the Draft. I don't think many Teams are looking for one and the position itself doesn't require a First Rounder anymore.

The Patriots drafted Vereen to be that dual threat, he can catch passes out of the backfield, really a bigger Kevin Faulk type. The Patriots used a 2nd round pick on the guy.

Ridley also showed an ability to catch passes out of the backfield.

Maybe we should give the kids a chance to develop.
