Which Charger mental error was the most fatal

I want to start by saying I thought the Pats played a great game today. With that said, I can not believe the number of gaffes the Chargers made in play calling and / or stupid mistakes.

Which was was the worst

1. Calling a challenge on the interception fumble

2. Going for it on 4th and 11 in the first quarter

3. Head butting Daniel Graham

4. The unsportsman like conduct penalty on the PAT that put the Bolts up 21 - 13.

5. Vincent Jackson not getting his toe inbounds on the almost TD pass

6. Not running LT more in the 4th quarter when the Pats could not stop him

I think the idea of playing the Pats just psyched them out

The fumbled INT. First off, picking the ball off cost SD yardage when a drop would have gotten them 10 yards further up the field...AND WITH POSSESSION. That was the mental error - the fumble was just a great play by Brown.

Midway or so through the 4th, when the Chargers were up 21-13, and we went for it on the 4th down. Instead of just knocking the ball down and getting possesion further upfield, the Chargers DB picked it off and then fumbled, giving the Pats the ball back on the Chargers' 32.

I would also say the TD the Pats scored before half weighed HEAVILY on the psyche of the Chargers'. I think that took a lot of air out of them. If they go into the locker room up 14-3, it could be a different game. That was a major momentum changer.

These two plays stick out more than any others, if you ask me.

Marty's challenge of the interception fumble. The others were split second decisions. Marty had time to see that play was clearly a fumble. Its cost his team a timeout which was critical in their last drive.

Its probably why Marty ****-in-pantser will be fired.

I agree. That was the worst call because it made no sense. Even the announcers said they had no idea what he was challenging,and in the end that game was so close a TO would have come in handy. It's tough to choose just one though. Coaching is everything in the playoffs even when your team is full of MVP's and All-Pros.

One mental error that set the tone for future mental errors came when Marty allowed actual players to participate in pep rally before the game.

When I saw that, it was clear that there was a chance their focus wasn't where it should be. Can anyone imagine BB allowing players to participate in pep rally prior to a game like this?

Intercepting the ball on 4th down. Of all the decisions, I think it's the one you can say most definitely cost them the game. If that's just an incomplete pass, I think the Patriots' chance of winning goes to about zero -- at least, their chance of winning in regulation is almost certainly zilch.

You see this one all the time, though. How often have you seen a team go for a bomb on 4th down, to have the defensive back make a great play on the ball to incercept it before it hits the ground.

The reason nobody ever really talks about it, is that it almost never comes back to haunt you. If a team is going for it on 4th down and throwing a pass, they are in a tough spot, and if you intercept it rather than batting it down, it usually means the game is over.

............................ :yeahthat: It's also the one move that pissed off the Charger fans the most. the 2nd most pissing them off was the challenge where they lost a Time Out ... that one really hurt them.

The biggest mistake by the Chargers IMO was when the fool decided to heatbutt Graham, that was one of the stupidest things i've ever seen. Also Marty on the sidelines being told by his QUARTERBACK to challenge and listening to him is just baffling to me, considering there was NO way Rivers had any clue what was going on.

Did anyone one of you guys question the Charger timeout after the Hobbs injury time out?

I was freaking out. We got free time. Everyone lines up and we call a timeout on top of the injury time... That and moronic challenge really hurt us. We could have really used both of those on that last drive.

Ohhh While im at it. Why the hell did Reche have to go out of bounds?

Had he made it to the endzone we'd have had a ton of time.

I must say, not running that little baby LT all the time was a big mistake. He was gashing us all day long but they just passed and failed.

Not mentioned....they're gaining six yards a clip every outside run.

They call a reverse that loses about seven yards. If the normal run is still gaining six yards, we're not ovepursuing yet.

this led to the 4th and 11 which led to no points plus got us out of field position hell.

Just a bad and unnecessary sequence.
