Patriots sign WR Anthony Gonzalez

As long as this is a veteran minimum type of deal with incentives, I am up for it. Otherwise, it is a waste. This guy has been decimated by injuries.

shocking!

**** that, I don't want him hitting our players every practice. We'll have no one left by season's end.

Just trade for him and then sit him on the bench.

Screw it, we'll play with a 52 man roster instead. It'd probably still be worth it.

I know there will be a lot of people bashing this move but I've got no problem with it. Low risk signing, if he can stay healthy, he's a decent player.

How do you bash this move? Everything to gain, nothing to lose.

How many people (Gil and Geno notwithstanding) will refer to him repeatedly as "Hernandez", and vice versa? Geno will do it nonstop.

Right now, I think you have to see him as little more than camp fodder. Yes he was Drafted high, but the injuries have been severe. The Colts have a 34 year old Reggie Wayne as their #1, and Austin Collie other than that - you can't let people go in that position unless you think they're done.

Looking forward to seeing him work hard though, and hopefully get a spot on the roster.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to contribute. I also wouldnt be surprised if he sprained his wrist signing the contract. Nothing to lose here, good move.

How do you say Patriots en Espagnol? With Hernandez and Gonzalez, and "yo soy fiesta", el Patriotas could become the new team for the Hispanics to cheer for.

This is a fine pickup. I presume that he took a physical.

He is certainly a fine #4 wide receiver. He is even an upgrade form our 2012 #3: Ochocinco.

So, now we have our #1, #3, #5 and #6 wide receivers for 2012.

For now, we also have Ochocinco and Underwood; Branch is unsigned.
=============

And free agency is less than a week old and we still have the draft.
==============

For me, the #1 WR priority is to sign Welker to a long term deal.

If there is no signing bonus involved, why not kick the tires?

Can't really judge this one until I see the numbers...

Seems like like a classic gamble on a low risk, high reward prospect. Odds are against the Patriots, but if he manages to stay healthy you get a good player at low money. Nothing not to like.

*this assumes a smart, "prove it" contract on the Patriots' part.

Not surprising, obvious low-risk high-reward move the Patriots love to make.
