Megatron = new apex in contracts

that's an insane contract....how do you pay a wide receiver that much money ....and its basically ...around 20% of the salary cap......

Gronkowski will get over $45M guaranteed.

We are the Lions. Hear us roar.

Yep. If he maintains his level of production, 7/100 with 40-50 GTD will be his market. Probably more depending on what happens to the cap. Either way it will set a record for TEs. It will certainly be a test for this FO.

Just out of curiosity, how big a contract do you see GRONK getting?

if he continues at his current level of productivity, prob 10-11M per year...who knows with what contract sizes will be coming up when the cap goes way up

finley just got 7.5M per, so take it from there

As I just wrote above, I think it will be more. Tight ends are changing the game, and Gronk >>> Finley.

Megatron is a very gifted and great receiver. However, the Lions just did their franchise a disservice and also screwed the league. Hello to the world of major league baseball... Setting a standard like this in the NFL is going to ruin the league such as baseball has done. While they have a great receiver at the end of the day i give a big LMAO to the Detroit Lions. What idiots!

deserves it. Hands down the best receiver in the game.

just 2 of them right now (gronk and graham) the rest are on par with the past

this may be an instance of it being wise for the pats to initiate talks with him sooner rather than later

If Gronk is able to have two more seasons like the one he just had a team might be willing to offer him a contract even if he's franchised and it might be north of 100M. I hope they get him done after next season instead of waiting and if they do wait they might have to think about the exclusive tag.

Because he is a BEAST!

No player is worth that, but if anyone was going to get it, Megatron was!

$60M guaranteed, 7 year - $132M.....all I have to say is WOW!

Johnson signs seven-year contract

Kinda why I am nervouss that the pats won't be able to keep grok AND Hernandez. Those could be 2 9+mill guys a year and I dont see the pats paying two tightends that

Well, suppose the Pats were to offer a totally new deal to Gronk tomorrow. Here's his current deal:

2012: $490,000 (+ $30,000 workout bonus)
2013: $575,000 (+ $30,000 workout bonus)

Now, with Gronk getting laid out in the KC game (where he landed awkwardly on his head) and after his serious ankle injury against the Ravens, perhaps he could be persuaded that, you know, his health is no sure thing, and if he waits until 2014 to get paid, it's possible that he'll never see that season on an NFL field.

So the Pats say, look, we'll tear up 2012 and 2013 and pay you much more money than your rookie contract called for. In exchange, we'll also add a 4-year extension on top of that that will give you some guaranteed money. It won't be as much as you could *potentially* (if you continue to produce and are healthy 2 full seasons from now) get down the road as a free agent, but in a sport where the average career is 3 years, we're offering you, 2 years prior to free agency, a chance to protect yourself. So here's the offer (remember, the salary cap should go up a ton in 2014):

2012: $3 million ($3 million guaranteed)
2013: $4 million ($4 million guaranteed)
2014: $7 million ($5 million guaranteed)
2015: $7.5 million
2016: $8 million
2017: $8.5 million

That's a 6-year, $38 million deal (average of $6.3 mil per year), with $12 million guaranteed. As of now, he's due to make just $1.125 million over the next two seasons and this could set him up big-time. For Gronk, he gets WAY more security (minimum of $12 million); for the Pats, especially with the guaranteed money up front, it's a hedge against him demanding an insane contract as he becomes a free agent in 2014.

Calvin Johnson is the guy I want on my fantasy team. All he does is catch touchdowns

That contract is crazy, yet if there is anyone who can justify it its megatron. He is in his own category for recievers, the best I've ever seen. The only person I can think of that is so superior to the rest of his peers is Gronk. Good Luck building the rest of the team around that contract however...

Revis, for one. Can't wait to see what he asks from the Jets for his next contract.

Well, Revis with the Revis Island rules. . . .
