Everyone here who was a Patriots fan back in 2001 should remember 2001 as probably the best offseason Free Agent pickups that the Patriots have ever had in their history.

There were no real big names,no flashy can't miss stars but all of them in one way or another were huge contributors to that championship year.

Brian Cox
Larry Izzo
Roman Phifer
Mike Vrabel
Anthony Pleasant
Antowain Smith
David Patten

NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL A DAMN GOOD FREE AGENCY SELECTION!

...and of that FA class, they had an annual compensation of about $865k. Incredible.

While we're on the subject it should be noted that it was nine years ago yesterday that the Patriots signed a free agent that only one other NFL team was interested in at that time: Rodney Harrison.

But did we know it at the time, but did we say "who?"

That was also an incredible off-season for not only FAs, but draft and trades.

Ty Poole
Rodney
Geno Wilson
Ted Washington
Asante
Rosy Colvin- IR
Ty Warren
Bethel Johnson (yea he was a dud but he was a very good return guy that year)

But did we know it at the time, but did we say "who?"

Back in the day, I seem to remember having heard of Phifer and Vrabel. Cox was the loudmouth guy that we hated while with the Dolphins, but brought some much needed swagger to the team. Smith was a retread out of buffalo...and the rest were "who's?"

...And we all spent the off-season imagining the defensive backfield with Harrison and Milloy ...

You can also add Joe Andruzzi and the G who also played C when Woody lost the ability to do the shotgun snap. I forget his name. These were 2 low end FA solidified the OL

Am I wrong in thinking Mike Compton? For some reason his name I thought first

How many of those guys in 2001 were signed within the first 10 hours of free agency?
