Gary Guyton will not return to Patriots

A while ago I predicted he'd start for the Colts
Still think it happens. Only 30:1 odds against. Less than that factoring only teams with desperate need.

I think he would have fit in nicely with their defense during Manning's reign, as their D was built around the idea of having a lot fast, undersized players on that turf attacking with a lead. If that's still their plan going forward, he'd do well enough there in a role. If they've decided to try a difference defensive approach, not so much.

thank god!
had two nice seasons in 2009 and 2010, but really fell off a cliff last year.

Guyton is yet another one of those guys who flashed strong ability and then faded. I always wonder why players like that can't muster consistency.

I thought the Pats made him inactive for all those games this past season so he'd be fresh for the 2012 season...:bricks:

He was simply atrocious for most of the season.

I would have been bummed if this move was made last year. But now, let's just say it's for the best.

He was a coverage LB who couldn't cover, so I'm really not surprised. Honestly, I wouldn't bet on him to make it out of training camp on an NFL roster.

MEH ..........

Good hard working guy .... but as a player he is a MEH.

Because they cannot overcome their inner suck.

this is a tragic loss...somebody start a thread following his exploits ala Mike Sanders to Atlanta last season...

I could see the Eagles or Falcons signing him as a weakside 43LB.

Think about the discipline it takes to dedicate your life to staying in shape, and in fact improving your strength and conditioning.
There are very few players in the NFL that don't have to be 100% dedicated to their workout regimen, nutritional habits, and avoidance of substances or activities that are bad for them.
Add in the fact that most grew up dirt poor, and even the UDFAs make more money than 99% of American wage earners, and its easy to see how they can lose their edge.
I think a guy like Guyton is easy to envision as someone who worked his way onto a roster by being focussed and dedicated and passing by other players who gave less effort. By the same token, when he takes a step backward in effort and commitment, others pass him by, and that fine line of NFL caliber vs out of the league is crossed.

Its easy to see in any field how employees become comfortable, develop bad habits and coast. While they can turn it back on, and NFL player has guys waiting to take his job that are just as talented, and its awfully hard to ever get back the lost improvement of slacking in workouts and development.

Meow! I'll miss Gary. He was great on SpongeBob.

You have a good point. Besides his speed, which the Colts love, he also has former GT teammate Phillip Wheeler over there to throw in a good word for him.
