I know we have semi been down this road before but anyone interested? Considering our lack of the safety position, I think it would be wise to take a look at him.

Thoughts?

If you're looking for a Meriweather clone, he's probably the best on the market. And that's not a good thing.

Is it a worse thing than Ihedigbo opening the season as a starting safety?

His issues have been health related the last two years. He might be worth taking in on a value prove it deal, but a risk if he wants real money.

Honestly, yes. Ihedigbo is bad but he's cheap and fits the locker room. Atogwe isn't worth much more than vet min really, when he'll likely get something from some team. Keep in mind he's released from a team over the cap.

No, but I'm not too worried about that happening. Atogwe was benched for a 5th round rookie last season. He's damn near useless. Ihedigbo can at least play in the box decently.

Ihedigbo can back up Chung and play special teams, he knows the system and Belichick likes him, hes one of those players that can make a smooth transition into a position in case of an injury, he has good work ethic, comes cheap and has room for improvement.

He will be on the roster in 2012.

Thank you. I got eviscerated on Reiss's blog for pointing out that there are better options on the market. Amazing what a big name and a Madden rating can do for someone's reputation.

O.J. Atogwe

Could he be an option at safety?

Re: O.J. Atogwe

Would rather have Gilmore who can play FS, we have Chung to play SS. This guy sounds more like a SS, same with Landry.

Re: O.J. Atogwe

In essence he was released to make room for Merriweather, who BB cut last year.

I really hope that's not the way you look at it. Atogwe's salary was a harder hit against the cap then Meriweathers is, this year anyway.

His issues are health , when healthy he is quite good in coverage and causing turnovers.

He's been a free safety his whole career, and quite decent one at that. Worth a gamble for the right price especially with the lean safety market in free agency and the draft.

This was my line of thinking as well. However since Gregory has been signed it's not likely to happen.
