Casino's are a little overrated. They are FAR from an economic cure all. We've got about 80 in this state and it hasn't made a huge impact, other than producing degenerate gamblers.

They are great for bringing in some entertainers that otherwise might not come through here, though.

I would love to have a casino in my back yard. My wife and I are responsible gamblers (we're up for our lifetime and don't gamble beyond a set limit per year) but the whole NIMBY hysteria people have about casinos is anachronistic, imo.

Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods are a benefit to CT and the surrounding cities. More jobs means less crime.

I think people have this ridiculous 1960s Las Vegas idea of what a casino brings in. These days they are glorified shopping malls where you can smoke and drink and lose money.

You are in the minority though. Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with the traffic more than anything else. Unless the state finally gives in and gives Foxboro stadium its own exit, the traffic on RTE 1 is going to be a nightmare most weekends. Not to the point of a football game, but pretty bad.

To clarify, that dude is his BUSINESS partner...He was operating the casino and Wynn fired him for taking bribes or something along those lines.

A lot more complicated than that, and it was for paying bribes rather than giving them -- but yeah, along those lines. :)

Good point. I hadn't really thought about the traffic. That would probably suck. I imagine that the steady stream of people would represent some significant number increase of drivers on the road.

I don't care about the casino or the free drinks, but if they put in a well run poker room with good 20/40 stud and hold 'em games, then I'd be a regular

this is the only thing that pushes me from color up to hit me

I think the traffic is very over rated. Its not like a game day where 60,000 people are all coming to the same place at a particular time. People who go to a casino get there at all times of the day.

I don't now the casino's capacity, but lets say its 10,000 people. Those 10K people are coming in at all hours, say 70% from 8am - 8pm, and 30% over the rest of the day. Traffic would be greatly diluted.

I have been going to Foxwoods for over a decade. To get there from the north you have to travel 8 miles on a 2 lane road (route 2) and I have never been in what you would call a traffic jam in all that time. I can count on one hand the number of times traffic was bad enough that I had to wait for 2 lights to get through an intersection....and that's a 2 lane road, not the 4 lanes they have at even the narrowest parts of route 1. Plus Foxwood's capacity is much larger than what Wynn has proposed.

There are legitimate issues against having a casino in Foxboro, but traffic issues should not be high on the list

That's partially because Foxwoods is the only reason to travel on those roads. Route 1 already has regular commuter traffic, congestion during the holidays and event traffic. In addition to Pats games there is MLS soccer/concerts/high school football etc.

I could not care less about gambling. My only concern is that this will make an already horrific parking situation even worse, eliminating existing lots and creating the need for even more parking spots and increasing traffic on game days and worst of all nights.

5,000 car parking garage, available to Pats fans on game day, comes with the deal.

I live in Foxboro and am all for it.

It will bring jobs, help with my property taxes, bring a classy convention center to the area, indoor/outdoor skating rink, pools, spas - what is wrong with any of this??

If I had a gambling problem, I dont think a casino 60 minutes closer than foxwoods would make a difference.

Can't tailgate in a parking garage

I don't live in Walpole anymore, but have a few friends who still live in S. Walpole near the stadium. Pretty easy way to get to the game without paying for parking...
The area where the casino is going to be built directly abuts their houses. If this thing goes through I hope everyone enjoys looking at my friends' backyards through the windows of their fancy hotel rooms! (or maybe it's the other way around?

I know a few people that live in that same area as well. They will be more affected than anyone in Foxboro and won't receive any of the incentives.

I've done it! It's great on rainy days when you get two cars and park in the corners of the building to wall in a nice little space with a view.

This is at BC football games, btw. Who knows what the rules would be at Wynn Foxborough, but BC is one of the most heavily restricted tailgating environments in the universe, for what it's worth.

what does the nfl have to do with it?
Well, since you obviously didn't know, the owner of the NFL franchise who plays in Foxboro is (figuratively speaking) in bed with Wynn on this endeavor.

That'll never happen. For some reason I cannot comprehend, there is a federal law that states that only the state of Nevada can have sports gambling. Personally I don't see how in the world such a thing is Constitutional where the federal gov't can allow something in one state but forbid it in all the others, but that's another matter.

POST SCRIPT: When I say "sports gambling" I mean football, baseball, basketball, etc. Just about everyone is allowed things like horse racing, dog racing, jai alai, etc.

POST POST SCRIPT: Yes, I know Delaware (and I believe Washington state but don't quote me on that) have a certain amount of sports betting but believe me when I say they are very, VERY limited in what they are allowed to do. For all intents and purposes, Nevada is the only place you can wager on sporting contests legally in these United States.

I'm all in. It's a Wynn win :D

....and who cares if a few peoples backyards go from an ugly dirt parking lot to a 5 star resort. If the town votes this down they need to have their heads examined.

I didn't ask what Bob kraft has to do with the NFL I asked what Bob Kraft building a casino has to do with the NFL. Do you think the NFL has the power to tell bob kraft not to build a casino?
