Oh, boy. Don't know to much about this yet, but it sounds serious.

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

Adam Schefter: Discipline for the Saints could include fines, suspensions and forfeiture of draft choices.

NFL investigating Saints for placing bounties on players

Breaking news: the NFL is investigating the New Orleans Saints for their alleged use of bounties on opposing players.

Some comments on twitter:

Adam Schefter: NFL investigation of Saints began in 2010 when allegations were made that Saints targeted QBs such as Brett Favre and Kurt Warner.

Judy Battista: The NFL investigation into saints bounties could lead to severe sanctions: losing draft picks, suspensions, etc. ... Gregg Williams, then with Saints, now the Rams def. coord. "administered" the bounty system. Not good. At all.

Peter King: NFL: Saints owner Tom Benson directed GM Mickey Loomis that bounty program be discontinued. NFL says Loomis did not follow Benson's orders.

Mike Dussault from Pats Propaganda: Video: This hit kinda makes me think Kevin Faulk was on the Saints bounty list… This hit kinda makes me think Kevin Faulk was on the Saints bounty list

Daniel Kaplan: "The league’s investigation determined that this improper “Pay for Performance” program included “bounty” payments..

Trey Wingo: I remember a radio interview Gregg Williams gave before 2009 NFC title game saying his D would put " remember me shots" on Favre

Michael Lombardi: This Saints Bounty investigation is ugly to read and going to get uglier once the Commissioner rules. This is really bad.

Judy Battista: Commish has to be particularly unhappy (understatement) that Payton, Loomis didn't stop it and Williams administered it.

Jason La Canfora: According to the NFL, the bounty pool totaled upwards of $50K at times w/ payments for "knock-out hits" w/ players and coaches contributing ... NFL investigation says Saints coaches and GM Mickey Loomis did not intervene to stop bounties when owner Tom Benson instructed them to

Awesome. Somehow the Pats will end up losing the 27th pick out of this!

If I was a Saints fan, I'd be freaking out...

Aaron Wilson (Balt. Sun): Roger Goodell: 'Payments here are particularly troubling because they involved not just payments for ‘performance,’ but for injuring players

Battista: NFL says neither Sean Payton nor Mickey Loomis did anything to stop the bounties when they became aware of them.

Wow.

Much worse than Spygate if true, IMO.

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

*2009

I hope they lose next years first for all the crap I took during and after spygate around here.

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

IMO, bounties on players>filming signals.

Punish them accordingly.

the Panthers and Falcons boards are pretty mad. LOL

no, in fact a good punishment for the Aints would be to give the Patriots their second and third round picks too!

and ban them from using the franchise tag this season. THAT will show them!

Lol, and they're forced to give up Drew Brees, Carl Nicks, AND Marques Colston. Colston to the Pats, anybody??

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

It won't be bigger than spygate because the New Yorkers at ESPN won't have it in for the Saints. Sad but true.

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

Wow. The system was administered by Gregg Williams (DC). And Payton knew about it and did nothing. And the GM did nothing to stop it even when ordered to by the owner.

Goodell had better hammer the Aints big time for this.

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

I got it... MOVE THE SUPER BOWL! Foxboro anyone?

Ha, exactly. I envision it going like this.

*in meeting*

Goodell to Saints, "Did you learn your cheating ways from the Patriots?"

Saints, "Uh, no"

Goodell asks again very sternly, "DID YOU LEARN THIS FROM THE PATRIOTS?"

Saints, "Uh ......yeah actually we did."

Goodell, "Ok, thanks for coming in, we'll take it from here"

*Picks up direct line to Foxboro*

Re: Breaking: Saints Break Bounty Rule

They better get at least an equal punishment of a first round pick and a massive fine. Blatantly injuring players has no place in the game.

Absolutely. And what's the over/under on when the first national media story gratuitously pointing to the Payton/Belichick friendship gets published? It's 3:25 now so I'm going 3:45. Latest.

OTOH, Battista tweets: Saints better buckle up. The commish is going to completely hammer them for this. He preaches player safety and then this? Yikes.
