Manning and Wayne a package deal

I heard Brady is planning to do this with Welker.

Only thing is Brady isn't a FA so Welker has no choice but to stay :p

Culpepper and Randy never made any sense though. These guys actually like each other and have worked well in tandem for a decade. Randy and Fumblepepper had a brief interlude after which they became more like McNabb and TO...

I agree that Culpepper and Moss never made sense. I think Manning and Wayne doesn't make sense either for different reasons.

First, as others stated, Manning may not sign with a team for several months while teams wait to see if he is going to be able to return. Wayne is only going to maximize his deal if he gets signed late March or early April at the latest.

Second, packaging himself with Manning limits his opportunities since some of his most likely suitors aren't looking for Manning.

It is very possible that Wayne and Manning end up on the same team, but I expect Wayne to be signed long before Manning is signed and they won't be a package deal.

I think that this is one of the dumbest rumors of the off-season to date.

As others have pointed out, the unlikelihood of finding a suitor that qualifies for need, want, cap situation etc all within a small window of time is pretty ridiculous-- in my opinion.

Maybe the truth is that they'd both like to play for the same new team, but that should already be assumed by all.

Oh, I think Manning will be signed before the draft. Or else he will take a sabatical to the broadcast booth if not retire. Manning is going to sign with a team that is willing to take the risk in hopes it reaps the reward, and Manning is going to want to be into the playbook ASAP. Getting the message out that he'd prefer to go with Manning will just force other teams who need or want Wayne to up the ante and possibly force the team who signs Manning to counter.

The odds of Tom Condon allowing Peyton Manning to sit on the sidelines unsigned for months as every spare cap dollar gets spent and QB needy teams sign lessor guys and draft players is less than 0.00% unless he has decided he is going to retire. The Peyton sweepstakes will start the day Irsay announces they have released him. If he is healthy enough to throw for teams - great. If he isn't the message to teams is he is progressing on schedule, will be ready in time for 2012, and if you want him you better pay up now. Manning and Condon already proved in 2011 they have no problem stealing $ from a team when they had no idea if he could play.

Few days ago it was reported that Manning & Wayne were down in South Beach playing pass & catch. So let all speculation begin.

If Wayne wants to wait and see what Peyton does and then go play their on a cap firendly deal, I can see that as a possibility.

If anyone thinks one of the 10 best QBs of all time and his super agent and either of their egos are tying where he signs to that team promising to also bring in a 34 year old WR in decline, well that is just plain dumb.

If the reports of his limitations are true, what is Condon going to get for him now? A veteran minimum contract with incentives? There could be a team stupid enough to gamble in the next few weeks that he is going to be healthy enough this upcoming season that he will throw like the old Peyton Manning (or close to it) and not pass like Peyton Hillis.

Odds are that Manning could potentially get more money after the draft than right now. He is probably not going to get a huge contract now because no one knows for sure if he will play again, nevermind be close to what he was. He will likely break traditional reasoning and get more money closer to training camp when he can prove that he is still a viable franchise QB.

The only way he signs quickly is if he is truthful about taking a modest contract with whopping incentives. The rest of the league watched the Colts peiss away over $30 million in bonuses and salary on Manning last year when they got assurances that he would be ready for the season. Odds are another team won't be stupid enough to make that mistake again unless Daniel Snyder does.

Manning had four surgeries, still can't throw, and many speculate he is done for his career. Most teams won't offer much upfront money and will pay him massive money in incentives. At least until Manning proves he is going to return to some semblence of his prior self.

Is it possible for two teams to give Manning eight digit payouts to have him never play for either contract? I think teams are going to be more cautious after seeing Irsay's $30 plus million mistake on Manning.

I think the only way he will get big up front money is if he accepts his signing bonus as a roster bonus that kicks in if he makes the final 53 man roster (which will be quickly converted to a signing bonus again to amortize the hit). The question is whether Condon would go for that. Otherwise, he may have to wait to cash in.

BTW, whether Manning signs right away or not still doesn't change the fact that packaging Wayne with Manning as a package deal doesn't make sense at least for Wayne. Wayne is going to be a sought after free agent and packaging himself with Manning only lowers his earning potential. He can still sign with the team that signs Manning, but being his own entity will allow him to play teams that aren't going after Manning with teams that are.

These package deal rumors make no sense unless one or both of the players involved have little free agency value. Both Manning and Wayne are going to be top free agents. Assuming both are healthy, both will get top dollar on their own. As a package, they might have to take a discount.

The only way a package deal makes sense is that Reggie Wayne wants to play with Manning even if it means he will take less to do so. Considering he has been upset with the Colts for years about his contract, I kinda doubt that is the case.

Condon got him what might have been the best contract in league history last summer when he couldn't even lift his arm.

And you are telling me that owners like Jeffrey Ross are unaware that the Colts paid Manning over $30 million to never play for them again? You are saying that billionaire businessmen are just going to say the Colts were just stupid, but paying Manning is a safe bet this time?

Bill and Chris Polian were just idiots and were stupid enough to believe Manning would be back. They lost their jobs because of it. But that was three surgeries ago and by all accounts, Manning can't throw to with any velocity and to his left. Odds are teams aren't going to make that same mistake twice especially with a lot more information than last time.

I think that Manning is an all time great player. I think he is much further along health wise than he was a year ago even if he still can't play today. All it takes is 1 team to roll the dice and he gets a big $ deal. All it takes is 2 and now you have a bidding war. And I know for a fact that most of the decision makers (coaches or GMs) out there rumored to be lining up for the Manning sweepstakes are going to fired if they don't win in 2012 which they are unlikely to do without a huge QB upgrade. What is it they have to lose? There is no way Condon sits back and watches potential bidders draft RGIII and sign Flynn before he auctions Manning off.

There are more questions about Manning ever being able to play ever again this year than this time last year or even towards the start of the season. Last year in August, it was generally assumed he would be fine for the regular season. This year, there are serious doubts throughout he will ever play again.

I still think Manning has too many questions on whether he will ever play again for anyone to give him any guaranteed money. If he isn't getting guaranteed money, there is no reason to sign quickly.

Yes, there are teams out there that are stupid, but not brain dead. If Manning is truthful in that he will accept a performance based contract, he may sign quickly. If not, he won't be. No one is going to give a lot of money to a player who may never play a down of football again in his life.

I think that it is more likely that wayne simply does not want to play for a rookie/bottom 20 QB

I think both wayne and garcon would be open to landing where manning goes, but I think they are just both affording to be choosy

If Miami could open enough cap space to make this happen, the AFCE could be very interesting in 2012.

I agree with this. I think either guy would be happy to follow Manning wherever he goes, but neither are going to lock themselves into a package where they don't have the flexibilty to go somewhere else where they have just as much shot or a better shot to win...... Or get paid top dollar.

I am sure No Patriot Fan would like to see Manning throwing to Brandon Marshall in Miami.:scared:

I actually want him in the conference. We would get to play against a 36 y/o after a serious injury playing in a brand new scheme with brand new players. Sounds like Favre to the Jets all over again.

I'd much rather see him go somewhere in the NFC personally.

Why play with fire? LOL.

Let him go throw TD's to Larry Fitzgerald, get him the hell out of the AFC.

I think that MIA will be in play for Matt Flynn too. There's a chance that MIA may be more of a threat than the Jets will be, but of course it's all just pure speculation as of now.

None of it should matter with a few additions/improvements to the current team here. Free agency and the draft should both offer the opportunity to make this team instantly better.
