It's time to get the ball rolling again folks, and we're a little bit late as well. Here's a link to last year's thread and final list:

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...draft-contacts-2011-a-page35.html#post2523918

Remember, what we're trying to do is list the player's the Pats have had contact with in the build up to the Draft, and gain a wider picture of the positions etc.

Something that's been up for discussion is the "legend" as I like to call it, if you have any suggestions, feel free to put your ideas forward. Here's the legend as it stands now:

V - Official Pre-Draft visit; visited team facilities/hosted by team in area
PW - Private workout held with prospect
AW - Attended open workout on Campus
C - Position Coach or Coordinator contact
MC - Team has spoken to player or agent or had on-Campus visit; miscellaneous contact
APD - Team official has attended Pro-Day
I - Interviewed at Combine/All-Star game
RI - Rumoured interest

NB: All players in larger font, and Bold, Italic and Underline, have met the "Three Contact Rule". To meet the TCR, a prospect must have three confirmed contacts (RI does not count). The TCR implies that the Patriots are very very interested in them, and there's a very good chance we'll draft them. Don't take it for granted though.

Are we ready? Let's do it :)

TE/FB Emil Igwenagu (Massachusetts) I

Shrine Week Notes: Day One

"One curious interview that went on for a long, long time was between the New England Patriots and UMass tight end Emil Igwenagu. We hear the Pats, who are loaded at the tight end position, are looking at the UMass senior as a fullback- a position he’s projected to by a number of teams."

We talked with Joe Adams' agent, he is interviewing with the Patriots at the combine.

He's a busy guy. apparently he's interviewing with all 32 teams.

This is what I was thinking as I was watching him at the Combine today. He'd most likely be a project as a FB/TE but might be worth a late round pick or to have on board to sign as an UDFA.

Does anyone have a breakdown of our draft picks last year and what contact they had with the pats for some reference? E.g we know BB went to the Connecticut pro day and they selected Butler e.t.c

Melvin Ingram's just told Warren Sapp live on air on NFLN he's Interviewed with all 32 teams at the Combine.

Check the first post, that's as much as we know from last year.

Chandler Jones has just put this photo on Twitter:

Top right corner......not sure whether to mark it as an MC or an I.

Dang. Kid has enough gear to open up an NFL Pro Shop.

Ohhh the life of a top 10-12 pick.

I think you've missed the point of this thread.....

Using the list BritPat put together last year and comparing it to the compilation James had over at his site, here's what I came up with. Not an exact science, as despite cell phone cameras, social media, the web, paparazzi and whatever else some visits still don't ever get publicly reported - but it gives you a general idea of what to expect - or perhaps I should say, not expect.

2011 Patriots Draft Contacts | NEPatriotsDraft.com - 2012 NFL Draft

Nate Solder: Official Visit; Attended Pro Day
Ras-I Dowling: ---
Shane Vereen: Attended Pro Day
Stevan Ridley: Attended Pro Day
Ryan Mallett: Official Visit; Attended Pro Day
Marcus Cannon: ---
Lee Smith: ---
Markell Carter: ---
Malcolm Williams: ---

It should also be noted that the two players the Pats appeared to have had the most contact with were not drafted by the team: C Brandon Fusco and DE Allen Bailey.

Thanks to NEPatriotsDraft.com for sharing that info.

Edit To Add: After the fact additional information did come out in regards to the visits; obviously many go unnoticed:

http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...draft-contacts-2011-a-page38.html#post2546437

1. OT Nate Solder -- Had his scheduled visit to Gillette Stadium canceled at the last minute. The canceled visit was ikely a result of the Patriots not needing any more information, and perhaps not wanting to tip their hand.

2a. CB Ras-I Dowling -- Did not make a pre-draft visit.

2b. RB Shane Vereen -- Did not make a pre-draft visit, but noted that director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio put him through a private workout.

3a. RB Stevan Ridley -- Said he visited the Patriots at Gillette Stadium at the same time as quarterback Ryan Mallett.

3b. QB Ryan Mallett -- Quarterback visited the Patriots, breaking down film with Bill Belichick, a week before the draft.

5. OL Marcus Cannon -- Had a pre-draft workout with the team.

5b. TE Lee Smith -- Had a pre-draft workout with the team, and was visited by the Patriots at his Tennessee home.

6. OLB Markell Carter -- Had a pre-draft workout with the team.

7. DB Malcolm Williams -- Opened eyes with a strong performance at TCU's Pro Day.

The Pats were definitely at Lee Smith's Pro Day. I linked to it in another thread.

Before the draft, I was convinced Pats were drafting Bailey because of all the contact. (Though I later had some doubts when someone posted some game film showing how slow he was off the line.) It seems to me that a lot of reported interest is probably a smokescreen.

Very true - and sometimes it takes almost zero effort to create that smokescreen. One example would be when so many mediots convinced fans from all 32 NFL fan bases that the Pats were going to draft Tim Tebow two years ago. Another would be when the Pats worked out Vernon Gholston and the Jets were convinced the Pats wanted to draft him.
