No way does Light fetch a 2nd rounder. He's gonna retire in a year.

Lloyd will cost more then $2.9 mil per year, it will probably be at least $4 or $5 mil per year to get him.

I'm not arguing with your 40 million claim (I'm not going to look at it), but I believe the Patriots could have access to something over $30 million if they choose, less paid adjustments.

$20-$25 on the 'current' cap
$6 million brought forward if they declared for it
$2 million borrowed from next year if they wish it

That's $28-$33 million before adjustments (Bonuses, etc..), and it doesn't take into account potential restructures that could free up millions more.

• Tolbert, RB/FB - replaces BJGE, Ridley takes lead role
• Morgan, WR - replaces Stinko
• Carriker, 3-4 DE - is about 27 years younger than Warren, adds more flexibility between 3-4 and 4-3
• Jarrett Johnson, OLB - DE - more flexibility, replaces Carter (Carter is put on the shadow roster, he returns at the end of training camp making DE a position of strength)

Use the draft to build depth and add competition in secondary.

I like the thought of the secondary additions, keeping all of our key players, and improving through the draft too. I like your positions chosen, and feel as though it would add good depth and competition.

I don't agree personally with C.Benson. I don't think he's that talented, and I don't think he offers a good attitude either.

I also wonder if Floyd will be around, and whether or not we'd choose a WR that high anyway.

Sounds like the Pats would like Carter to return, but nothing is going to happen for a while. Also, he'll be looking for more than a one-year deal.

The agent for free-agent defensive end Andre Carter said Carter plans to play again in 2012, has interest in returning to the Patriots, and is ahead of schedule in his rehab after left quad surgery.

"This is what Andre wanted when [we] sat down and talked -- he wanted to go to a team that was a contender [and] where he would play in a system where he had a chance to go to the Pro Bowl, so everything was perfect until the injury," agent Carl Poston said Friday at the NFL combine. "We would like to think they'd be interested in keeping him on a long-term basis, but it takes two to dance."

Poston said he's made initial contact with the Patriots to see what the team's plans are with Carter.

"I would have been surprised if they said they weren't interested. They said they were interested, but it's a little early [to talk about a contract]," he relayed.

I really like the Tolbert idea but who do you think will cost more him or BJGE? I will take the cheaper of the 2.

As JMT just pointed out looks like Carter wants back and looks like the Pats want him back no contract being discussed yet but based on the comments one would think it happens way before camp and likely before the draft too.

Hopefully Carter doesnt expect too much because I would really prefer to have him back and or Anderson before looking at upgrades otherwise you dont really imrove depth and its hard to picture someone playing that much better than Carter did last year.

OK I'll bite Here is my ideal scenario with one proviso. Scenario A is one that the Pats resign Welker - Scenario B is the one where they can't. Both assume Light and Waters return

Scenario A

1. FA

a. Your own - Resign - Carter, Anderson, Welker and Connolly. Let Koppen, Iheadabu, Branch and BJGE walk -
b. additions - Sign - Michael Griffin or Goldson I don't care which - Sign a 3rd TE in an ideal world Yeatman or Smith will become available. Add a WR to compete with Ocho for Branch's snaps (under 6MM/yr) - Sign a couple of cheap vet OLmen to compete for the 9th OL position-

2. Draft- this is my fantasy, but I'll try and be as realistic as I can and deal with just the first 5 picks and assuming we don't trade any of those into the future.

a. By position - DL, OLB/DE, CB, WR and S
b. my fantasy draft based on what little I know right now. Cox - for interior pass rush
Marcilus- as an eventual Carter replacement who can play DE and OL Minnefield- another big tall CB with press coverage skill - Some tall WR with deep speed. fill in the blank - Markel Carter - to develop as a S if Barrett gets hurt again.

Scenario B - If Welker walks

1. FA - the same as above only you delete Welker, and upgrade the WR position and add Vincent Jackson so the 6MM/yr goes up to 9MM/yr
2. Draft - The draft remains the same, but instead of big WR, you go for the quicker guy regardless of size, like Adams and you might even be willing to move up in the 3rd round to get him.
