The Pats typically do three year deals with older players. I can see them paying him $7 million a year or so, but they may push a large chunk of the money into 2014 where the cap should explode along with salaries.

Now I think the Pats will try to get him for $5-6 milion a year, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was a three year, $21-24 million. I doubt it will be two years though.

Any team that gives up a 1st round pick AND pays 9 1/2 million per year (elite WR money) for Mike Wallace is a complete team of idiots; at least at this juncture in time anyway. Well, maybe not idiots, but they sure would be taking a gamble. In my opinion, the range of 9-10 million per yr should be set aside for the 'elite' and proven WR's of the game. Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, maybe Andre Johnson..Once you start to give guys like Santonio Holmes and Mike Wallace 10 million per yr you are really screwed cap-wise if that gamble doesn't pay off.

Believe me, I can see the argument for it...but Wallace still needs to prove himself a lot more to warrant that kind of money.

I think one of the potential problems in teams trying to get Wallace is the grey area in trying to determine exactly what he's worth.

Pros:

1. Young with a potentially high ceiling
2. Likely the fastest WR in the league
3. Can stretch the field, run great crossing routes, and make players miss

Cons:

1. Has been labled a "one trick pony" by many sources
2. Has not proven his ability to run all of the routes that would be necessary
3. Tends to disappear at times, like in the last 8 games of 2011
4. Questions regarding his utilization in any system without backyard football playing Roethlisberger on the run
5. Has not proven himself to be a "#1" WR in Pittsburgh, let alone any other team

That all said, I could imagine some team overpaying for him...sure. We've seen it before plenty of times.

I can also imagine a lot of coaches and GM's not being able to agree on his compensation at the moment.

I would think that 5 yrs/40 million would be closer to what he'd get right now.

Either way, Pittsburgh will have its hands full trying to keep their young core of WR's together. Wallace this yr, Brown and Sanders next yr...no way they can even think about affording all 3. They may not even be able to afford 2 of them.

It was amazing how the entire city of Pittsburgh suddenly became Giants fans (even though they couldn't name 5 players on the NYG team) during the game a couple of wks ago.

Even more amazing was the high percentage that I heard on local radio and (gasp..) facebook declaring how they'd suddenly be "proud to have the Ravens represent the AFC" this year I didn't see one unbiased opinion on anything relating to the playoffs or the SB, just a bunch of ice-aged morons declaring stupidity.

Talk about complete shock..I figured they'd root for anyone vs. the Pats unless it came down to the Ravens, however I was very mistaken.

You must be referring to the RB that was hurt in the preseason and put on IR before the season started. I think he was a late rd pick, or maybe even undrafted.

Lord knows that Jonathon Dwyer hasn't exactly worked out for them, and many proclaimed him to be the 'new coming of J.Bettis.'

They need OL and CB help in my opinion. The first thing I'd do is draft a big road grating OL in April if I were them. They're playing on borrowed time in terms of getting Roethlisberger killled back there.

Like every yr, this proposed "cap space" does not clearly equate to the real picture. At all.

Pioli went on the record today that said that he figures almost 25 million to go towards escalated clauses from 2011 that weren't factored in, based on snaps and performance, and that the 'real' cap was a lot lower that they are working with. Add up another 5-6 million for them to sign rookies, and all of the sudden KC's proposed "50 million" under the cap suddenly becomes about 20 million in all actuality.

Sure, you are right--there are some teams who have a lot more space than others; and there will always be a team or two who will overpay for an 'average' player. We see it every yr.

What we also see is a lot of this 'fantasy' talk to mean much of nothing. There are always moves and there is always talk about these big-names every single yr. After all, there is nothing else to talk about right now.

In relevance to your question, I see guys in this article like V.Jackson getting almost 12 million per yr...that's certainly not considered 'low.' They project Lloyd to get 7 1/2--8 million a yr? LOL!! That's certainly not low either. Marques Colston netting 9 million, moving him into the 'elite' WR category...certainly not low to me. The same goes to Mike Wallace, 9 1/2 million a yr? Are you kidding me? How about Randy Moss netting a 2 1/2 million dollar deal this yr, while most see him signing the vet minimum?

I'm sure there are some examples of lower figures that caught your eye, but the majority of it seems pretty straight on as to what they'll likely get. If anything I think some of the numbers are actually inflated for sure.

What about a Laurent Robinson?

2 years/$8 mill according to RotoWorld...4.38 speed....feasted on the Giants, Miami, and Buffalo...When Miles Austin went down, Robinson stepped up and Dallas's offense started clicking....Robinson scored a TD 1 out of every 5 touches.

I watched him quite a bit this year...kind of a floppy athlete....fast but not much body control....but always seemed wide open..... moderate cost/minimal years....seems like a cost conscious BB signing.
Looking back on his less than productive career....St Louis and Atlanta....decent rookie season but then disappeared for two injury riddled seasons. Cut twice over the last two years, once due to hamstrings, he finally stuck on Dallas roster the end of September.

Maybe BB could convince Robinson to come to NE on a "we'll give you some starts-prove yourself" type contract vs Dallas and the "wait for an injury" role. Cheap dollars with upside potential....the guy scored 11 TDs on 54 catches....that can't be dismissed
