How physical are the Chargers?

Controlling the line of scrimmage?

Pats Def versus Chargers Off.

This will be a great matchup. My thoughts are the Pats will outphysical the Chargers and I don't see them getting blown off the ball. The front three I see getting a push. The linebackers I can see getting blown back a couple yards when the rb gets in the 2nd tier.


Chargers Def versus Pats Off.

This is an interesting matchup. I don't think the Pats O-line is known for blowing people off the ball even though people give accolades to Light and Mankins. I think they're good at times but not overpowering running the ball consistently.

And how physical are the two Shawn's? Are they more speed guys or can they blow up a lineman when a runnign play is coming at them.

I'd say the matchup is slightly on the Chargers side.


What are your thoughts on who is the most physical?

I think it will be an extremely physical game whitha slight edge going to the Pats on controlling the line of scrimmage ebcuase of the thee d-linemen.

I don't think any team is more physical than the Patriots. One thing to remember was a note by Felger on NEST saying that for a supposedly great defense, the Chargers are considered a team that will miss more tackles than they should. So when we get Kool Aid and Dillon through the line, we can definitely hope for some broken tackles.

one thing they have in their favor as might have said in the other thread..the extra week rest.this is big after playing 16 weeks. towards the 4th quarter i think turner and LT will have more success, so its imperative not to be trailing at that time. .i think someone pointed out..it has never happened that both the 1 and 2 seeds have failed to advance to the championship game so in that odds are against us..

It's irrelevant. Baltimore losing yesterday has no bearing whatsoever on our game today.

Extremely physical,extremely fast. I like our front 3 or 4 better than theirs but their front seven gets the edge as far as strength and athletic ability.

Sounds like a broken record but our offensive line will decide this game for us today. If we can match their intensity and pick up the blitzes all day long we will be able to test their secondary.

I really think our Tight Ends are going to play a big factor in todays game. I would play alot of 2 and 3 TE sets today. If Graham can contribute with his blocking and Watson can mange to hold onto to most of his balls with good yac we should be ok. I'd love to see the sure handed Thomas get some reps in there too.

I am neither confident or unconfident in this game. We all know the keys to winning this game,as Belichick would say "It will all come down to executing the plays called." Whoever does that will win this game. Pure and simple.

WIth the Pats D on the field, we've got the most physical fullback with LoNeal out there, just seeking people to hit. Dielman and McNeil are also pretty physical, and Jackson is making a name for himself as a blocker, but I would give the edge to the Pats D.

When the Chargers are on D, you have Merriman, Castillo, Olshanksy, and Williams, all phsyical studs. All can bullrush and get to the QB. Then you have the freak Philips. He may be a little more athletic than physical, but he gets to the QB and bats down an inordinate amount of balls. I would give the nod to the Chargers D.

I hope we don't see alot of 3 tight end sets in the I-formation. I think crowding the box plays to the Chargers strength.

Now if the Pats start with that formation and split ben watson out wide or even thomas or graham it could present matchup problems for the chargers.

I think the pats need to go 3 wideouts a te and rb the majority of the time and force the chargers to go nickel and if they don't then a safety or lb needs to cover the slot recv'r.

If the pats suddenly go from power formation to splitting the te's out then they could run no huddle and catch the chargers trying to switch personnel.

merriman's the physical shawne, phillips is the speed shaun, castillo is physical, williams is really physical, and olshansky is more of the run stopper who never looks for sacks

oh and donnie edwards is basically a safety playing ILB, he's easy to drag on runs most times, but he's also the best pass coverage LB in the nfl.

The ravens D is very physical. I think the Pats are a good mixture of wit and physical.
