I'm torn between who I want most... Lloyd alot cheaper (presumably) and JMD's buddy but older. Then Wallace, would need a 1st rounder plus his high salary but hes 26 years old and has immense speed and great hands... Who do we all prefer?

Is there any real chance we could keep Welker and get both Wallace and Lloyd? And in the process drop Ocho and maybe even Branch...?

Strongly Prefer Lloyd.

No draft pick involved

Clear history of the Offensive Coordinator and him working well together

1st rounder? Why are you under the impression we would trade for Wallace?

It isn't a matter of trading. He is a RFA. He will be tendered. If the Steelers get cap room, they will most likely tender him at the highest tender which is a first and a third. Might tag him at the second highest tender which is a first.

Either way, I think that is too rich for the Pats' blood to give him a contract offer. Then again, I though a second was too much to give up for Welker and the Pats disagreed and threw in a seventh for good measure.

How is this even a debate? If both are available, Wallace is the first choice hands down. Dude is a complete stud and way younger.

Because Wallace is a RFA and the Pats will have to give up a high draft pick or two to get him while Lloyd is an UFA. Wallace is likely to be tendered so high that he is off the table though. I don't see the Pats giving up a first and a third or a first for Walace. If the Steelers are dumb enough to give Wallace a second round tender, then the Pats should jump on him.

Wallace will probably demand a bigger contract, and he'll cost a first rounder on top of that. I like the move from a 'youth' perspective, but there's certainly room for a debate here.

There is not such thing as a 1st and 3rd round tender anymore. The highest level is a 1st rounder. For the Pats that would be the 31st pick.

He will definitely demand a bigger contract because he's much better than Brandon Lloyd. I wouldn't mind parting with the 31st pick for Wallace but the priority should be rebuilding/supplementing the defense. If they can pick up a FA Safety then plan to use the 27th pick on a DL then I suppose they could justify the Wallace move.

here lemme help you then........their not getting Wallace

I'm so gun shy on WRs because it seems many struggle to pick up the Pats system. To me the cap savings, the fact it won't cost us draft picks and the fact he knows the system makes me lean towards Lloyd. No doubt talent and youth-wise Wallace has the higher ceiling but if he struggles to pick up the system, he'll have a much lower floor.

I guess I missed that part of the new CBA. The 31st pick would make it tempting to sign Wallace, but it may still be too high on top of what he will be getting for salary. I don't know enough about his strengths and weaknesses to know if he could thrive in the Pats' system. Just to be a burner doesn't make you an automatic here.

I wouldn't think that theory applies as much to downfield guys like Wallace.

Also, it's not just the system. All the guys who couldn't cut in NE ended up on the scrap heap. Most of them just weren't that good.

Pitts O id fairly dumber down and a lot of their big plays are the result of beoken plays when Ben R is scrambling.

What tells us that he would understand our O any better than say J Galloway or Ocho?

Lloyd OTOH is a know quantity in THIS O the Pats run.

This makes Lloyd the choice hands down, in addition to being less $$$ than Wallace, no draft picks are lost.

It applies to all WRs. Deep threat WRs still need to run routes. Wallace may not run routes over the middle in the Pats' system, but he would certainly run comeback routes, curls, slants, out routes, etc. and those will change based on the defensive formations.

I don't know enough about the Steelers' offense, but I think it is a rather simple one. I doubt there are as many presnap reads for that system. And I don't care if Wallace is the best WR ever, if he runs a go route when he should be running a comeback route, he isn't getting the ball.

another difference between Wallace and Lloyd is the market size. Wallace is gonna demand attention from a lot of teams. Bengals, 49ers, Texans maybe. Lloyd would be significantly easier to obtain

but Wallace would be a great option to have for the remainder of Brady's contract.

I read some speculation of a potential Rams tag on Lloyd, that would lock him 1 yr with a good pay day but it looks a bit bleak over there imo. Not to many happy receivers coming out of Schotties system. Going a little heavier on the passing game this season didn't play out well either.

I hope they don't tag him for his own sake.

Between Wallace + a 1st rounder or Lloyd?

I'd choose Stevie Johnson.

Johnson is an intriguing idea. I started a thread on him coming to the Pats back in December and a lot of people wanted no part of him because of his maturity issues. At the same time, he's young, got a ton of talent and has had success against both the Patriots and Revis. So the question is: Could BB Boot Camp turn him into a true Patriot.

Anyway, latest is that he may not be franchised.

If the Pats were gonna pay big bucks for a WR Id rather see them go after Marques Colston and save the first round pick.
