Just heard on PFT Live (so no link at this point). Asked about rumors of reuniting with Josh:

I would like to entertain that and see where it goes. ... I've been very successful in a Josh McDaniels offense. ... I Admire the Patrots and Tom Brady.

My quotes are not likely to be 100 percent word-for-word complete, but he did say what I have above. PFT, Reiss and Rapoport now tweeting re: interview saying basically he's keeping all options open.

At this point he sounds like every other free agent out there. I'd like to hear what the Patriots think of him.

True enough. Nothing dramatic, here, just that he is a guy being mentioned as a Patriots target.

Reiss naturally has more and even throws in some opinion:

The smartest thing for Lloyd to do at this time is keep all options open, and his interview on PFT Live reflected that he's adopting that approach. Any chatter of him being linked to the Patriots only helps him on the open market because New England's personnel acumen is respected across the NFL to the point that, "If Belichick is interested, maybe we should take a closer look." After listening to the interview, my feeling is that the Patriots could be in good position to win a tie-breaker if the money was equal to other teams, but as expected, finances will be a significant part of Lloyd's decision-making process.

ehh I'm really not hooked on Lloyd like some of you guys are. I don't see him being anything above average. Additionally, we have this WR free agent and draft class coming up with a lot of good guys. Why have collard greens when you can have caviar? (comparison was probably dumb but it sounded right when I typed it.)

re: WR Brandon Lloyd re: Patriots & reuniting with McDaniels

McDaniels = The Wide receiver Whisperer

re: WR Brandon Lloyd re: Patriots & reuniting with McDaniels

Everyone is Patriot Nation believes Brandon Lloyd is coming to NE = Little Chance Belichick sees the same.

BTW,I know Lloyd is a talented receiver but is passing into his 30s now and is not in a Randy Moss type caliber who is going to change games completely....I have no idea what the hard-on is for regarding Lloyd.

My thoughts exactly. Why all of this hype over him? He'll be 31 this season and has been in the league just one year less than Branch, yet Branch has almost twice as many catches and yardage as Lloyd. Hell, based on stats, Jabar Gaffney has been more productive. Lloyd has been shuffled around to 5 different teams in his career, never landing a long term deal with either of them. Doesn't say much for his services. Is everyone falling in love with him over a few ESPN highlights or am I missing something?

You're missing something.

Just find a WR that gets it. The end of the career scrap pile they keep bringing in has been a waste. If Lloyd gets McDaniels' system....then the battle is won.

As to what some of us see in Lloyd, unlike many WR's who have passed through here he has the football IQ to play in this system (the latest being Ocho). This differentiates him from the other WR's available in FA, we don't know which if any can play in this system and read the D along with Brady.

While not R Moss he fills the need of being a WR who can consistently make plays outside the numbers, and unlike R Moss will run the entire route tree. He showed this under McD in Denver while catching 77 passes for 18+ YPC. If he could do this with Orton throwing to him and with E Royal the only other threat, he could really make an impact on this O with the other weapons and Brady involved.

This O could be better than the 2007 & 2011 O and you would be more effective against the better D's.

This interview w Lloyd was orchestrated by Condon to make the point that Lloyd doesn't want to play with just NE to help Condon in getting the best $$$ for Lloyd.

re: WR Brandon Lloyd re: Patriots & reuniting with McDaniels

Lloyd would be a perfect fit for the Patriots if he can be had for reasonable dollars.

He is 31 NOT 35

He will not cost a draft pick

He and Josh can work together welll (this is HUGE)...do not underestimate this..they know each other and are on the same page...this takes a lot of risk out of the signing

It's another interesting prospect to entertain, geezus enough with the mind readers of BB already. Glad to know McD doesn't listen to the back round noise something I'm sure lloyd appreciated.

Clearly you must have seen his shortcomings revealed. In the shower room?

re: WR Brandon Lloyd re: Patriots & reuniting with McDaniels

I think one thing is clearly missed in the Lloyd discussion.

What Does Josh actually think of his game at current time and moving forward?

It is entirely possible Josh saw value in bringing him to the Rams to help install the offense bring a target that could be relied on. But not necessarily think he would the best option here because of a better option or how he precieves him moving forward.

Have you looked at his game tape at ALL?

The guy is downright filthy, he has excellent hands, is VERY skilled working the deep and OUTSIDE zones (things we REALLY need), and he has demonstrated success in a McDaniels offense. He is about as sure of a bet as one can make.

Regarding his stats, this isn’t fantasy football. Lloyd has said that McDaniels was the first OC who was creative enough to utilize his skills, other OCs were just sending him deep which limited his effectiveness, as soon as he linked up with McDaniels he took off, that should tell you that he has tremendous potential which just needs to be utilized properly.

Suppose you look at his game tape, is there anything on that to indicate insufficient or declining skill?

Here's something to consider, if he was in his early 20s do you think he'd cost a HELLUVA lot more to sign?

I desperately want Reggie Wayne on the team, the fact that he's 34 means it's actually doable, him being younger would put him out of reach.

Great point, he's had crap QBs throwing to him, even more reason not to give stats too much weight, they don't provide context.

That would just make him overcompensate with stellar play!
