Would be a typical low risk high reward signing for the Pats. Leonhard could begin 2012 on the PUP List so the pats may be able to get him at a lower cost. If he comes back healthy, Leonhard instantly makes the Pats secondary that much better. The jets were devastated when they lost Leonhard last year, that's how important of a player he can be.

yeah...take a flyer on him for the vet minimum..no more than that

He has been banged up a lot, strong in the run game doesn't seem to be that good in coverage, we need a S who can cover IMO.

You forgot to add he was IRed in week 6 in 2011 and spend this year now in IR.,

I do not understanding paying him a million and a roster spot through camp and offseason ,so he can give you what 6 games tops and then we can start go looking for a Safety in the middle of the season like this year.

Older injury prone safety who cannot run.... as our FS roaming and making plays. emm does not even make sense.

Nah, he is injury prone, older, and not all that good. His loss is hurts the Jets more than helps whatever team acquires him.

Negative!

The New York Jets can also take back Sean Ellis and James Ihedigbo. As a bonus, the city of New York can reclaim Steve DeOssie.

Any guaranteed money is too much for him.

Leonhard is a really smart player. I wouldn't mind having him especially with this draft years lackluster safety class.

He hasn't been a starting-quality player for the Jets, and that wouldn't change in New England.

Ugh.. Didn't us see this guy have major issues going against TE's.. Our biggest issue on defense was the middle being so open. How does a 5"8 guy fix that?

Liability in coverage and has been IR'd each of last two seasons.

As a vet minimum roster depth guy, sure. But I think ideally Ihedigbo will fill that role as we find someone else to start next to Chung. Leonhard is not the solution there. I'd rather have Ihedigbo as he is a solid contributor on ST and Belichick likes his football IQ.

Maybe 5 years ago...This is one of rex's "guys" if he doesn't want him that pretty much tells you everthing you need to know.

As has been said, we need a safety who can cover and that isnt Leonhard.

too old

too slow

too much re-injury risk

can't pass cover

reeks of Jet

The only safety available who has played for the Jets worth looking at is Dwight Lowery, he had a good season for the Jaguars until he injured his shoulder, converted CB so has good coverage skills too and probably wouldn't command much over 1.5-2m

His last season with B'more he was very good.

but thats a long time ago.

2 big injuries in the last 2 seasons.

PASS.

Neither was Danny Woodhead. I trust BB to put players in position to succeed. If he brings in a player, say like Andre Carter, who is an older vet that doesn't seem to be a fit in scheme or has an injury history I am willing to be open to the possibility that the player has something to offer the team

I'm surprised at the negative reaction to this idea. Leonhard is a solid player, by all accounts a great locker room guy, a leader, and at the very least gives a starting-quality depth option. That's exactly what we need. He's a significant upgrade in every area over Ihedigbo/Barrett/Brown.

Might not be a perfect coverage safety, but someone tell me how many of those guys are on the market. The only reaslitic options there are DeCoud and maybe Goldson. Everyone else is a strong safety like Leonhard, and they'll cost exponentially more.

He is awful. No thanks. Jets fans are laughing at us picking through their garbage.
