regardless, sounds like Lloyd wants to be here, in the end it's his decision.

People here have gotten way to cheap with their 'offers'. As a general rule, if you want to get a good wide receiver in free agency, you have to pay good wide receiver money. Waiting can get you a bargain, but it also tends to get you players that are available for a reason. The same goes for whatever other positions you're looking at.

The pats (if they franchise Welker) are already in good shape with their combination of receivers and tight ends. They are not going to break the bank for Lloyd. If he wants to come here for reasonable money great, if not sign with another team. Teams also know his production is limited when he is not playing under McDaniels. That could hurt his chances of getting a big pay day.

Actually from a Condon perspective this sounds fairly positive. He doesn't usually acknowledge the possibility that the player may want something other than too just get paid - like a comfort level. I think he knows the pool is limited for a player who has really not shown a propensity for success outside the system. Oddly KC could be the only other suitor able to project the kind of potential success worth paying for what with former Pats WR coach Daboll coming in hoping to run the same offense with Cassel. And Scott as much as Bill would be the guy with Condon issues. Here we now have old Floyd doing the negotiations, and Caserio making the calls, so there is no direct connection with anyone he butted heads with here in the past. And Condon is likely to be awefully busy in the coming weeks what with the Manning situation and Brees' deal yet to be hammered out among others. So it's possible within a large agency like CAA that another agent ultimately ends up handling the negotiations for essentially a potential #2 WR.

They will at the very least make the call in the process of due diligence. Perhaps the call ends with the suggestion that they touch base again once Condon has fielded enough offers that his client is ready to weigh them and anxious make a decision. Players have a way of getting pretty jiggy as the first week or so of FA comes to a close if they haven't landed a deal yet. And this is a deep FA as well as WR market which will just ramp up the anxiety level of lots of second tier guys.

My feeling is this: if you legitimately want the guy, offer him a fair market deal and if he wants to be here, he'll take it. I hate *****-footing around by both sides in these types of situations. If it isn't going to work, move on to someone else. The crop of good available WRs is fairly abundant this year, so take adavantage of that fact. There isn't, in my mind, one guy out there we absolutely can't live without.

No wonder why the Pats don't like this guy. The pats and condon haven't done a deal in 8 years or so, yet this guy starts publicly negotiating before the Patriots can even hold a conversation with him.
It still comes down to how the market shakes out but IMO this is not a good indicator..

If you tag Welker and he's getting 9.5M, or about that, how much more can you dedicate to the WR position? Lets say Lloyd was to agree to 6M and I think that's on the low side of what he's thinking. That's 15.5M of the available 120-130M of cap space, depending on the final number of what they push forward from last season.

Now ask yourself are the Patriots going to use 12.5% (about) on two 31 year old receivers?

That sounds more like the Colt's way than the Patriot's way to me. For better or for worse this organization is dedicated to value and they have numbers on what they'll spend at different positions, etc. Nothing is done that doesn't fit their model. I don't always like it but I don't see this happening.

Now if Wes is willing to back off and take 3/24 and Lloyd 3/18 maybe but I don't know that I see them doing that. Yes they did pay Ocho 6M this year but that was while paying Wes and Deion 3-something each.

Did you even read the article? Condon says flat out that he's going to do what Lloyd wants whether it be to maximize his earnings or to put him somewhere that he's earning less but feels like he has better potential to do good things on the field.

This is an encouraging sign:

Condon pointed out his agency — CAA Sports — represents several Patriots, so any idea Condon would be an impediment to a fair deal is silly.

Yes, the Pats haven't done business with Condon since Ben Watson, but they have done business with his partners with some frequency.

Personally, I think if the Pats can do business with Jason Chayut (Branch's agent) again after they pressured Branch to fire him in 2006, I think they can do business with Condon.

I still think there is a good shot of the Pats landing Lloyd. He wants to play here. I think with several other WRs in free agency being better than him and the WR position in general being deep in free agency, his age, and the perception of him (has had an attitude problem in the past and only performs under McDaniels) will keep the market interest relatively low for him.

TBH, I think many of us on this board were on the Pats' side on firing Chayut.
