I'm willing to put in writing at the (hopeful) potential of looking like an ass:

1. Chad Johnson will be back next year
2. Welker will be tagged, extension will come mid-season
3. We will NOT sign a major free agent WR
4. We will draft a WR in the first 2 rounds
5. WR depth going into next season (note: season, not training camp) is Johnson-Welker-Branch-Rookie-Edelman-Slater (sorry Underwood, you're a camp casualty)

My reasoning behind this is:

1. BB really likes Chad Johnson
2. McDaniels is much better at working with WRs than O'Brien was
3. Johnson's salary is so much more favorable than any FA WR we can get ($3MM versus $4-6MM+)
4. This enables us to bring Branch back at $1.5-$3MM.
5. Johnson probably would have been cut already if this wasn't the case

I look forward to this thread being bumped a million times when we cut Chad Johnson and sign Robert Meachem.

There fixed it for ya.

Nothing on David Patten?

Our WR coach must be really bad, he couldn't teach Chad Johnson the system...or anybody for that matter. The only WRs that can apparently play are ones that learned the system from McDaniels or Weis

Don't waste any more time or money on Johnson. Sing Welker, Lloyd, Branch, look at Moss and consider getting a player like Joe Adams in the 3rd round. Johnson is not a good fit for the Pats.

Not that I disagree with respect to Chad Johnson, but I hope to god they don't eschew the FA WR market because they decided to pin their hopes on him.

how much money will we add on to cap if we drop him?

I want lloyd or colston...dump ocho if we get anymore than $3 mill more

Neither Charlie nor Josh ever coached WR's here. And the guys who did all had their successes and failures. Brian Daboll was the WR's coach from 2002-2006. So he gets credit for Branch and Givens, but then loses it on Bethel, Sam and CJackson by your measure. It's mostly on the players and perhaps the selector. Nick Caserio filled in in2007 and he probably had less to do with Moss and Welker's success than any WR coach in history... Talent and determination are what allowed those two to succeed.

I'll bet you six million dollars that Chad will not be back next year. Not only is his salary ridiculously high for his production, but even at veteran's minimum, he is not worth a roster spot.

I think Chad and Branch are both gone. If Branch is back, he'll play next season until someone else figures out the system and replaces him.

With Gronk, Hernandez, and Welker, the "needs" of our passing game are overrated. Sure, we could improve, but this already a championship-caliber offense. I would love to see us bring in a couple of solid #2 receivers.

the team needs a consistint deep threat. Them using Slater says that they think he might be able to do it with a full offseason. I expect them to let ocho/johnson come into camp to compete unless they need the cap space they will look at the WR market but more ten likely Welker either resigning or on the market will set the market so it might be a little high priced.

I hope they get a WR in the draft that can learn hte system

If Chad "gets it" over the offseason, then sure, bring him back. I don't expect that he will, though.

Chad will not be back unless he takes a pay cut. I personally doubt the Pats will go into the season with with Chad as the primary outside threat.

Prediction: At some point you will stop smoking crack.

Chad will get cut 3 million is still a relatively high cap number for zero production. Also Branch will be back at the vet minimum if at all. He's lost all his speed and the only way he gets catches is due to his mind meld with Tom Brady. Other teams know this, the Pats know this.

Solid #2? We don't even have a #1.

Needs of our passing game are one of the biggest things this offseason. If we could have stretched the field in the SB..who knows what could have happened

NFL teams are only allowed to have one Waterboy on the sideline

So is it going to be Randy Miss or OchoSucko for the position?
