Reggie Wayne on Playing in New England: 'Who Wouldn't Want to Play There?'
By: Ian Logue

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald had an interesting note in her Sunday football notes about free agent receiver Reggie Wayne, who apparently is open to the thought of playing with the Patriots....

He can help us.

I would still consider drafting an outside WR even after signing him.

I'd rather have Lloyd. But, hey, if Wayne wants to take a pay cut and contend for another ring, then he knows where to go.

I would love that, but I doubt we would get 2 big name FA WRs. If that core remained healthy, I honestly don't know how you'd defend against it.

Wayne and Lloyd combined are probably cheaper than Jackson or Bowe too.

Why does he HAVE to take a cut? How much money was left on the table this past year? The adherence to "value" seems to trump all else, even Rings! They key is how much a player is worth...to the Patriots. Given the complete inability to operate outside the numbers, I would think the value of guys like Lloyd and Wayne would be high, especially when coupled with the closing window of opportunity on the TB/BB era. This group would give them the ability to draft solely for Defense, bolstering a young group which, as it develops, will allow for a smoother transition to the next (Josh McDaniels/Ryan Mallet?) era Offense to take shape.

No more midgets

Wayne is the same size as lloyd

6000 yards, 54 passing TDs, MVP for TB

enough money left to upgrade the D though?

Could also be cheaper than Re-upping Welker too.

Not saying I want it to be the case. I'm just saying.

sign the beast!

wow, indy would really hate NE after a move like this. don't know if the Pats can pull this off within the cap.

Didnt get to see much of Wayne last year.

Is there anything left in the tank?

He would be like 4th option on this team. Will he like that?

So what passing system does Indy run? I was always under the impression that Manning rehearsed routes with his WRs so diligently because the patterns were strictly defined....not improvised/adjusted depending on the D alignment .

The commentators usually say the receivers have to be smart because they have to adjust based on what the receiver and Manning sees, sometimes you see a Colts receiver take a different route to what Manning thought they would too.

Lloyd is younger and knows the system, I'd rather sign him than Wayne. If we can somehow get both on the cheap I'm all for it.

A Wayne/Lloyd combo for $9-10 million is a better now investment for this team than Welker at $9 million w/ the franchise tag.

Don't get me wrong - I love Welker, and his contributions to the team...but Wayne and Lloyd would significantly diversify this offense and we still have Edelman (who is not in Welker's league or even close, and I understand that) to play the "Welker role".

The ability of this team to kill underneath with the TE's and Edelman (and potentially RBs), while having the ability of two excellent intermediate/deep receivers in Wayne and Lloyd would make this offense better than simply resigning Welker.

I know it sounds crazy - but I think too many people think Welker being back is a foregone conclusion.

If Welker somehow leaves for big $, Lloyd and Wayne for 9 million would be a good backup plan.

Also, yes, Welker is miles better than Edelman, but he could be the slot WR. I still remember rookie Edelman pulling crazy moves on the Jets and Texans.
