Do we 06 offseason all over again?

I mean think about it. The last time we were this close BB just said screw it lets load up.

We went out and grabbed the top LB in the market.

One of the top WR's available.

A big blocking TE

Randy Moss and Wes Welker.

What are the odds we do something similar with roughly being anywhere from 20 to 30 million (based on possible cuts) under the projected cap.

It is very possible we can keep Wes Welker and sign a top tier FA and some mid level guys along with our draft picks.

Ive been thinking about this all week, they DONT need it to stay in contention but it would certainly make things a hell of allot easier and make the team ALLOT more competitive.


I really hope they do a similar off season where they go out and try to get all the pieces tho.

My point exactly why not grab a Marques Colston? Your probably out of the running for Super Mario but at least you can try and be somewhat successful.

if you look back on that offseason Moss was a guy everyone said is done and Welker was a 50 rec punt returner... Moss went on to have the best year ever by a WR and all Welker has done is average over 110 rec and over 1200 yards as a pat my point is they tried that this year with Ocho and Haynesworth,


the pats do that every year they make low risk high reward moves they dont just go balls to the wall and spend big money on FA's some times they work and some times they dont but none of the moves they make will hurt the team long term if they dont workout

If Welker departs, and the Pats sign Colston to a huge contract, what would have happened to the Patriot Way?

I think so.

The Pats have always been smart with the cap, but I have a feeling they were anticipating this free agent period based on who would be available.

They got as much as they possibly could from the 18 undrafted players on the roster, and they can still add 5-8 million more to a 23-26 million dollar cap by releasing Mike Wright and tweaking a few contracts. The Pats could be looking at 30 million in space with small adjustments by March.

That's plenty of money when you consider the rookie wage scale.

For some reason it feels the same to me as it did then.

I thought BB did just that prior to this year when he loaded up and brought in Fat Albert, Ocho, Carter and Ellis so I think he knows well that we only have the luxury of a three to four year window where Brady is still playing effectively to compete for the SB. So I fully expect that someone like Colston will be signed in addition to Welker and the defense will also be upgraded in both FAcy and the draft.

Hell, I'm sure the loss is eating away him so much that he'll get back to the three hours of sleep working days within a week if he hasn't already reverted to it now.

A lot of people continue to overlook the draft class payment that's necessary this off season. If you budget the rookies to be anywhere between 5-7 million, that automatically adjusts the Patriots disposable spending to 13-15 million down from the reported 20.

As others have pointed out, it will come down to how the Patriots restructure contracts.

I'll be back to consider what we'll do with all our cap space after we re-sign or replace Welker, Branch, Connolly, Koppen, Carter and Anderson.

Before talking about the need to add a couple of top free agents to improve over a team that was a catch away, we might consider that we have a lot to do in order to have personnel as good as in 2011.

Perhaps belichick will prefer Colston to Welker. Somehow I doubt it.

We have not won a Superbowl since 2005 so maybe we should look within the organization and add a couple of good vets via free agency (Harrison, Dillion). Just my humble opinion which has changed over the years.

I think we need a "reverse 2007" offseason. By that I mean, load up on defense. Trade one of the first rounders, if needed, for proven secondary or d-line talent. Build a defense that'll give the offense more chances and make stops in the clutch.

As a fanbase, I think we're underrating the Pats receiving corp based on the last thing we saw. If Gronk was healthy in the SB that offense would've executed on a much higher level. Make three minor moves on O: sign Welker, offer Lloyd short money, and tell C. Johnson restructure or GTFOH.

By your assertion, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Percy Harvin, RANDY MOSS Calvin Johnson etc etc should never be considered by Pats because they play their games in a dome.

Thats 75 catches a year, 1041 yards a year, 8TD's a year playing avg of 14.3 games a season. !!

1. Dump Stinko, Branch.
2. Re-sign Welker, Sign Colston(prefer him over Lloyd who has 1 great season, and 1 decent in 9 years).
3. Draft 2 receivers - I would even say swing for Michael Floyd or Jeffrey, and pickup a late rounder 5-7

Colston-Welker-Floyd-Edelman-Underwood-Late round Draftee.

In a passing league this team is in desperate need to have other weapons to take the pressure off TE duo. Defenses then need to respect the run.
