My offseason wish list

The Patriots appear to have plenty of cap room, and perhaps it was by design. This year seems to have an unusually deep and talented free agent pool. I think that Patriots should sign these players. If they would have to go over the cap (who knows - this is a wish list - not a legit plan), BB should just yell "SIGN THE BEAST" at Goodell and be granted an exception.

RB - Ray Rice - This guy is only 25 and seems to be the sole reason that the Ravens are actually any good on offense. I'd love to have him here for his best years.

WR - Brandon Lloyd - I dare say that Brandon Lloyd could be a better fit at this time for this offense than Welker. He will not replace Welker's production, and in a vacuum, Welker is better for this offense than Lloyd. However, factor in the fact that the Patriots do not have any deep threat whatsoever and that Welker's production could be distributed among Gronk, Hernandez, and Lloyd, and you have a case for Lloyd. Ideally, I'd have Lloyd replace Branch.

DL - Mario Williams - We already have one amazing DL in Vince Wilfork. We need more defensive talent, and we could have Mario Williams for a long time.

You must be high off your ass if you think Ray Rice is going anywhere. But if Williams is healthy and can be signed at a reasonable price (not highest paid defensive player ever basically) I say pursue him aggressively.

Brady's had little to no success with deep ball receivers not named Randy Moss (Brandon Tate, OchoCinco, Donte Stallworth, Chad Jackson, etc.). His deep ball just isn't accurrate and usually hangs in the air too long.

I already said this in a draft thread but Reggie Wayne imo seems like a good fit and won't expect a long term deal given his age and unproductive season last year. We shouldn't overreact too much to how bad the receivers looked in the superbowl given that the best receiver on the team couldn't run.

Brandon Lloyd said he is following McDaniels wherever he goes. He did recently say that he was under contract and that he was open to staying, but it sounded more like his agent got to him and told him stop the "I am following McDaniels" crap so he doesn't get a crap contract. Why do people think Lloyd will be successful here because he was successful in Denver and St. Louis under McDaniels with lesser QBs. As for Brady's long ball, it might have to do with the receivers more than the passer. He has connected with several long balls this season.

Jennifer Aniston is a veteran. I'm not sure how much years she has left in her, her window is closing.

So you're belittling Lloyd, who's 30 and playing the best football of his career and has shown he can thrive in the BB/McDaniels system, but you want to bring in a 33 year old Wayne who has started losing the ability to create separation out of his cuts?

BTW, Brady had plenty of success throwing deep to the likes of Givens and Patten. It was the sort of success that won Super Bowls, as a matter of fact.

I really like that Dwight Jones kid from NC....great speed, and boy would he stretch the field.

I am not as familiar with corners but I hope BB and the gang seriously entertain that thought and continue to develop Devin and Patrick at saftey.....

Our best prospect of getting 2012 improvement from the draft is to draft a corner, and have McCourty play free safety. I suspect that Belichick would be fine going into the season with a safety group of Chung, McCourty, Ihedigbo and Barrett.

We now have Arrington, Moore and Dowling at corner, plus the oh so replaceable Molden.

So, Belichick has eight db's to start with. He can afford to draft the best defensive back he can find.

Some tough decisions to make as they have quite a few free agents to pay and most of the excess in their cap number will be used up on re-signs.

C-D. Koppen-I'm guessing a 1 or 2 year deal for Koppen, just as Light signed last year.

OL-D. Connolly-They may not be able to keep him as he showed himself to be a good player around the league. If they re-sign koppen they may not be willing to match what Connolly can get elsewhere in a league with a big need for OL.

RB-K. Faulk-I have to think he retires.

RB-BJGE-It will depend on how high the rest of the league is willing to go. i think they really like him but won't go too high to keep him.

WR-W. Welker-Tag and sign.

WR-D. Branch-Vet minimum if he returns.

DL-A. Carter- Returns at a reasonable price. Looking for the ring and loves NE.

DL-S. Ellis-Retires

DL-G. Warren-Just like this season he only comes to NE when they want him.

DL-K. Love-RFA's and ERFA's rarely go anywhere, Love will be back.

LB-G. Guyton- Goodbye

DB-A. Molden, J. Ihedigbo, N. Jones etc.....small deals if any return. I expect movement in the defensive backfield.


I'm sure I missed some but these are the ones in mind right now. I think they like most of their free agents but can't keep them all so there will be changes and it will be interesting to watch how they play it.



I have some wishes in league free agency but it is so hard to tell who will really be available. I'm hoping Belichik responds to the 2011 season like he did 2006 and goes hard to put them oover the top for next year. he will never sell them out long term and knows he has to sign players like Gronkowski, Vollmer, and hernandez in the near future but they also hae the room and ability to go after some top players if they choose to. B. Lloyd would really help and so would D. Goldson but who knows if they come free, and players like C. Campbell will almost certainly be Tagged.

Lloyd, C. Avril, Goldson are among those I would like to see them go after.
