Hoyer has already said he expects to be high tendered. I doubt Mallett is going anywhere until both this team and anyone else interested sees him on the field again in August. Kind of depends on what the author meant by next year since the league year starts March 13, 2012. They will all be here then.

The Pats have to tender him if they want to get anything for him; if they let him walk, they can't even get a comp pick next year.

Hoyer's out of here. Just my guess.

Release Brady and sign Favre

yeah...if ya can't beat em, then join 'em...trade Brady, sign Moonhead....I'd move to Tierra Del Fuego but I'm sure there's a good percentage of Pats "fans" that would go "golly gee goonikers!!!" head over heels in love with Pay-A-Ton...

Hoyer's probably getting the second round tender, but it's possible that a team could still sign him. I'd only give that a 20% chance, though.

I think Hoyer is a very talented Q.B... However, it is unlikely we will keep him, so he will be tendered and then will be starting somewhere else. Knowledgeable YETS fans, (yes, they actually exist), are very aware of him but he probably won't end up there. To me Mallet is a pure unknown.

Pats can easily tender Hoyer.
QB's with no starts get very little value. He came here as an undrafted rookie, without a really impressive college run. I would be shocked if someone gave up a Day Two pick for him. It's better to draft someone with higher upside, start them in your system.

I would assume he is tendered for a year, and then departs in free agency the following year. With Mallett on board, he can be the guy to take a knee when the Patriots are ahead by 20 points with 30 seconds to go in 2013, and be in line to succeed Brady - although hopefully even he is too old. However, Hoyer holds very little value for Brady - we hope he never plays.

I think Hoyer deserves a shot at starting somewhere. Mallett isn't going anywhere.

I think Hoyer has been a great backup...but he hasn't really shown (by no fault of his own) that he is ready to be a starter yet. Now he has shown great poise and skill in his limited time....now whether a team will take a shot on what they have seen....or will try to get him for backup..I'm not sure. But he is equal or better than alot of starters....so who knows!!

If the Pats think that Mallett can be the backup, then Hoyer is gone. It makes no sense to keep him unless they don't trust Mallett. He will likely be tendered at a 2nd round pick and traded, because he certainly isn't here in 2013. He believes he can be a starting QB in the NFL, so there is no chance he re-signs long term with the Pats. Trade him now, get some value, save the cap space and wish him good luck wherever he goes.
