No, not David Byrne or Tina Weymouth - who do you think are the best and worst analysts, and the best and worst announcers? Since a lot of the people here don't live near Boston let's limit it to announcers we all hear and eliminate channel 4 and 5.

To me, Sean Salisbury, Ron Jaworski and Chris Colinsworth are the best analysts. Berman used to be good but now we rarely see him.

I can't think of one announcer that is good enough to list here. Whoever did the Jets game last week was so lame that to listen to the Cotchery TD, I would have thought it was a two yard un on first and ten from the twenty.

salisbury is useless ..he had 25 players as MVP during the entire season. he keeps changing his analysis day after day.

read the section on salisbury

jaws is good and so is howie long

Hmmmm Bryant Gumbel is one of the worst of all time. Simms is pretty bad. I loved Boomer when he did it. Then there is good old Joe Buck. Some love him and some hate him.

Gumbel was terrible today, I thought. How long did it take him to realize that Peyton had not thrown that ball away?

I think Aikman is very good.

I don't think Gumbel did todays game. I havnt heard him outside of the NFL network.

Not Bryant Gumbel, Greg. I think he was the play by play guy today.

Bryant is even worse.

Are we just talking about the guys who call the games, or the pre/postgame talking heads as well? From my perspective, Boomer is pretty good.

AAHHHHHHHH there is more than one????? That has to be a crime.

I wholeheartedly agree. Although Aikman does mostly NFC games, he is one of the best color guys out there. Smart, speaks clearly and is insightful...

I only caught a bit of the game today, but i think it was Jim Nance and Dan Dierdorf. (Nance doing the play by play)

As far as talking heads go, i have always like cris collinsworth (he's been good since he was the only one to pick the pats to win in 01:D ) Salisbury isn't bad although he keeps reevaluating his stuff and changing his mind. Boomer is great as an analyst...listening to him on WEEI every week has been good. I also always liked Jim Rome...although he picked the chargers this week!

Today was Greg Gumble and Phil Simms. The latter is one of the worst color men in the league.
I have very little respect for most of the talking heads. Among the worst, IMO, are:
Salisbury
Merril Hoge
John Clayton (he must be paying rent in Peyton Mannings pants)
The guys I like:
Mark Schlereth
Mike Golic
Jaws isn't bad

Good:
Howie Long
Boomer Esiason
Chris Collinsworth
Steve Young

Wow. Nobody mentioned Madden. Gotta love the nostalgia, there, even if he is nothing but a parody of himself.

Good call, gotta love madden. I know a lot of people hate him, but I have always like to listen to him. One thing i really respect from madden is the fact that he doesn't stick to his guns for pride like most talking heads. For example, the 01 superbowl: pats get the ball, no timeouts, and madden says..."the pats should play for overtime with no timeouts and bad field position" after the pats march down the field madden says "i'm on record for saying it was a bad idea and they should have played for overtime, but i was wrong and that's why i am up here in the booth" (something like that) and then of course the famous : "what tom brady just did gives me goosebumps"

My least favorites....

1. Shannon Sharpe -- Hates the Patriots and makes it pretty clear. Or at least I think he hates them. I often have to turn on the closed captioning feature on my TV to understand what he's saying.

2. Cris Carter -- Dumb as a bag of hammers.

3. Merrill Hoge -- One too many blows to the head.

4. Skip Bayless -- Definately another one who doensn't like the Patriots. But it's nothing personal. Skip hates anyone/anyhthing that is successful.

Good: Simms, Esiason, Colinsworth, Jaws, Aikman
