Free Agency: Who do you want?

As much as I want Brandon Lloyd, I have a gut feeling that it's simply not gonna happen. Heres the way I see it, we're going to take a safety or cornerback with one of our #1's and probably deal the other to stockpile for the future. Second round is maybe a DE but I doubt we take a Wide Receiver. Heres another thing I would like to point out, I think Solder will have a BIG year for us next year. He did not impress this year but hey, he's a rook and playing a tough position. The overall theme of our draft will be secondary help in my opinion

Here. got facts now, happy ? Franchose tag # is $22.9 actually ! Now I can guarantee BB norKraft are forking this over. GUARANTEE!

Ultimate Texans » McClain: Tough decisions await Texans

2010 - 13 games
2011 - 5 games

declining sack #'s since 2008. Declining tackle #'s since 2008. Declining FF #'s since 2008

He's not going to get his contract for what he did in the past or whether he played 68 consecutive games, it about whether he can stay healthy to live up to the next contract.

PS: This is the same problem for Lions with Megatron Calvin. His franchise tag #will be $22Mill. He would lose money to sign a long term deal, unless he get $140mill contract to blow past Fitzgerald's deal. Calvin is in the driver seat with all the leverage, just like Mario is.

If we signed Williams we wouldn't be paying him 22 million against the cap. We wouldn't be tagging him. The money would be spread out over his entire contract.

Connolly, Anderson, Branch, Ihedigbo etc...Would be minimal hits against the cap. They would get little in the way of guaranteed money up front, and probably wouldn't cost more than 2 mill per season...Connolly and Anderson may be a little more, but they've been making the minimum or close to it.

25 or more million in cap space with the new rookie salaries in place makes it easy to sign rookies and 2nd tier free agents without much dent in the cap. We can afford to sign a Mario Williams and Marques Colston this year without killing the cap the next two years. The problem is finding the right salary range to keep Welker here without guaranteeing him 9.5 million on a franchise tag--which hurts other 1st tier signings.

Solder didn't impress this year? lol ok, and I highly doubt secondary is a the overall theme of the draft. Ras-I comes back and Arrington is defiantly a solid #3 corner. McCourty played well at corner on Sunday and Moore probably has a job as the #4. Secondary should be adressed but starting safety is the only position I really see them looking at. Ihedigbo can certainly be upgraded but outside of Janoris Jenkins falling, I don't see anybody worthy of selecting @ corner. Dline, WR, and Safety should be the overall them of this draft.

^^why not OLB????

who was out there on Sunday opposite nink.......Tracy White?

Mark Anderson, OLB could be a target. Outside of Courtney Upshaw, I don't see too much talent that would come in and contribute right away at that position.

I really want a deep threat. I feel like a great player as wide receiver will do wonders for our offense. Imagine what Wes and our TE's will be able to do if defenses have to stretch the length of the field and not just play the short pass and the slants up the middle.

they had Anderson playing that................oh boy :( I gotta watch better thanx :bricks:

Realistically I want Colston or Meachem. I don't think Lloyd is going to leave St. Louis and Wayne is meh.

Lloyd said in the St Louis paper that he would like to follow Josh McD because he loves the system.

I like the NO guys but the question is can they play in this offense, a lot of guys can't as we have seen. Lloyd is great in this system and knows the O already......

My knowledge of college American football is shocking

2 months to get some sort of clue what root for and expect.

Whoops wrong forum!

Mario Williams is in an interesting situation.

Houston is tight against the cap, and has a number of free agents, including Mario Williams and Arian Foster. Their defense played very well this year in the absence of Williams, and he would be their highest paid player.

Houston is also in an interesting situation with the franchise tag, with sort of an anti-Bird deal, where because his salary was so high last year, he would cost more on a franchise to Houston than to anyone else. The normal DE franchise tag figure is dropping due to the new CBA, but because the 120% rule survives, he would receive 120% of his last salary if franchised. So that will be nearly impossible for Houston. He is very likely to become an unrestricted free agent. Houston has first shot a re-signing him, but in that situation players normally wait to see if a better offer comes.

Williams has experience at both DE and 3-4 OLB, which Belichick really values.

He is coming off an injury, which might drop his total perceived value.

In the past, this is one position where Belichick has been willing to spend big money in free agency, with Colvin and Thomas. Clearly a huge need for the Patriots.

The Patriots do have some real cap space, even with Welker needing a new deal.

This could be a unique opportunity to sign a former top draft pick at a position of need.

No I was not at all impressed with Solder this year. Game after game, all I saw was Solder getting beat off the edge, but like I said, he's a rookie and I don't hold too much of a grudge against him. As for your views on our secondary, according to you, we have an huge question mark in Ras I, we have a #3 and Ihedigbo lol, ok. When I said "secondary, safety, strong safety is part of that group." Not to mention that Belichick always does exactly what we don't expect him to do, that was part of my consideration in that post.

1) I can tell you that you're in the extreme minority that wasn't impressed by Solder.
2) You can call Ras-I a huge question mark but I consider him an asset seeing how he played early this year and how he's had a year to get completely healthy. BB used essentially a late 1st round pick on him for a reason and I Don't see him running to find a replacement.
3) The thing that Ras-I and McCourty have in common is they both can play safety as well as corner. BB has talked about the need for a safety to be able to play both strong and weak so the word "strong" safety has been removed from my vocabulary. You are implying that there is a corner good enough to come in and unseat Ras-I or McCourty and I'm saying the only one that can realistically do that is Janoris Jenkins if he falls. (not considering Claiborne). What I'm trying to say is the only real hole in the secondary next season is a second safety. Chung, McCourty, Arrington, and Ras-I should all be expected to contribute.

Robert Meachem
Laurent Robinson
Mike Wallace(doubt PIT will let him go)
Vincent Jackson
Matt Forte
Ray Rice
Cedric Benson
Carlos Rogers

Celticboy04

Bring back Welker and Branch. Beyond that not sure who all is out there.

Perhaps you were watching a different sport? This is a forum for the New England Patriots, a team in the National Football League.

Vincent Jackson. He tops my realistic wish list.

Let the rams keep Lloyd.
