The NFL SERIOUSLY needs to revamp "injury time outs"

Re: Giants faking injuries

But Goodell sent out a memo. As we all know Roger's memo supercedes the NFL rulebook. If the Giants were faking injuries then Goodell needs to fine them and take away a draft pick for ignoring his almighty memo.

That will never ever happen.

and if welker doesn't drop a pass that hits him in the hands, it wouldn't have mattered

Re: Giants faking injuries

Remainder of the quarter is excesive but rest of the drive makes perfect sense.

I think the problem here is that there are legitimate reasons a player may need off the field for a play and if they have to decide if they can afford to be lost for the series they could chose to stay on the field and could further injur themselves.

I think maybe a distinction could be made between stopping a play to get off the field and having it only be a quick delay for you to run off and for your teamate to run on as opposed to dropping to a knee and stopping action for a commercial break.

Basically if your injury requires you to need the assistance of a trainer on the field you are lost for the series. But if you have a minor issue you can temporarly stop action run off the field and send a teamate on in your place only and not be lost for the drive.
Problem with this is teams would just fake injuries to get their subs in. Just have everyone you want to sub out tell the ref they have a minor injury and need to get off the field.

Re: Giants faking injuries

Sorry but whenever I think of the faking injuries phenomenom I am brought back to that Indy game years ago in the Dome when Willie McGinest "hurt" his leg and the next play after a goal line stand to end the game there's Willie sprinting down the length of the field. :)

Re: Giants faking injuries

Right, because Ty Law and Willie McGinest would never pull up lame seconds prior to stuffing the Colts on a great goal line stand.

I don't agree with the argument that just because we did it, it's somehow OK. Yes, the Patriots have faked injuries. Yes, the league should do something about it. Some of the other posters' suggestions are quite reasonable and would be easy to implement and enforce. They would also speed up the game, something the league should be trying to do.

Re: Giants faking injuries

It's a pain, and something I complained to my TV about, but in the end I just realized that it's requisite on Tom and the offense to be mentally tough enough to keep going, regardless of the cheap tactics.

Also, with the increasing emphasis on player safety in football generally, I'm willing to bet that rules meant to discourage flops could also be read as a call for players to ignore their potential injury in hopes of not hurting their team.

I will say, I was shocked by the shot of the Giants TE trying to jog & cut on the sideline after getting his knee taped only to crumple to the ground and have to be helped back to the locker room. Props to that guy for trying to tough it out.

Re: Giants faking injuries

Rolle is the only one I was suspicious about. And of course we've done it in the past-- all teams have. But when the MVP of your league points it out the day of the game, you should be looking for it as a ref-- and take action accordingly.

Exactly and I loved when it happened and I still love it when I see clips of it.

At least the giants made it look good unlike when they did it vs the rams

Actually, I find the timing of all this too be way too self-serving. Frankly, I think it's the flip side of the same coin whose other face is the constant invocation of BS like spygate.

Oh the irony on this thread is amazing... considering the Pats won 3 rings cheating.

And you guys just won cheating. How's it feeling, Shamrock?

Player goes down he stays on the bench for the rest of the game. If the injury is serious he wouldn't be physically able to participate anyway. That would end all the "acting" in order to gain an unwarranted time out.

I dont see anyway to prevent injury faking.

The NFL is trying to promote safety and player health and would surely prefer that players remain on the ground until medical staff arrive if they believe they are hurt.

I can't figure out why we didn't go no-huddle when JPP went out with an "injury".

No need to demonstrate your complete lack of football knowledge in your 23rd post. Give it time.

Welker's drop has nothing to do with the Giants faking injuries, those are 2 seperate issues.

That's far too punitive. You need to think about legitimate injuries, too, not just players who are faking.

I'd say that if a timeout is required due to a player injury, that player has to remain off the field for the remainder of the drive, and no other players can sub in aside from his replacement.
