Antrelle Rolle goes down with a phantom injury. Our momentum is stopped.

NYG Defensive coordinator gets a free time out to think about which play to call next. NYG defense gets a free time out to catch their breathe.

Our offense goes cold. Welker drops a pass that he usually makes.

The ball then goes to NYG for the game winning drive.

It happened many times in last years playoff game against the Jets and was never addressed.

It happened during the season with the NYG's being caught red handed when two players flopped at the same time. Rolle did it at a crucial point in the game. Pierre-Paul did it earlier in the game (replay showed no injury whatsoever)

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm *****ing. But it ruins the integrity of the game. I dont care what team does it. The NFL really needs to change that ****.

yeah and beckham with that phantom torn acl...he really sold that one! good acting

and ballard falling down all over the place......nice job brad not-pitt!

are you serious? lol

Are you? The OP is talking about the Giants defense, who have been doing it all year and Aaron Rodgers even made a comment about it, and you list two injuries to offensive players. Great job.

The Antrell Rolle acting job was obvious.

I knew he'd be back in a couple plays later... and he was.

So obvious. The Giants were even CAUGHT doing this in the regular season.

It SERIOUSLY needs to be addressed as it gives teams a free time out and ruins an offense rythem.

It was a big part of of our game-plan to try to speed the tempo up against them. Keep them on the field for longer drives. Do everything at the line of scrimmage. to combat that, there was a little bit of gamesmanship on their side. Some phantom injuries you might call them to try to slow us down and give them some time to recover during a couple of those drives. Check it out tonight. If the patriots get into a rhythym. And do a few drives in a row. You might see a little of that gamesmanship from the Giants.

I made sure I listed to the conversation closely between the player and the trainer. I'm not sure there was a whole lot of pain involved in those couple of instances.
- Aaron Rodgers

Surprise, Surprise.... Remember that Wes Welker drop in the SuperBowl? That was right after Antrel Rolle faked an injury.

Rolle was on the ground for 5 minutes. It ruined our offenses momentum. It ruined the rhythm. Our offense suddenly went cold after moving the ball so easily before that. It allowed the Giants to substitute and figure out what we were doing offensively. It allowed their players to rest.

Rolle then came back into the game 2 plays later and showed no ill-effects of his "injury". The replay also showed no such injury taking place. Jason Pierre-Paul also did this earlier in the game. The replay showed no injury at all.

Not making excuses. But it's obvious the league needs to do something about this in the off-season.

Re: Giants faking injuries

I thought they were faking injuries too. One Giant after another was down for the count and it was always when we were moving the ball well. Then they sat out a play and surprise, back in and good to go.

Re: Giants faking injuries

Here is the solution: Every time has one injury time out per half. After that they start to be charged time outs. If they don't have any timeouts left and a player is injured they have to stay out the rest of the game.

here's a hankie

its time to put your big boy undies back on and get on with your day

Re: Giants faking injuries

The most logical solution in these instances where an injury timeout is called is to have the player involved be forced to remain sidelined for the remainder of the drive.

Referees are not doctors so they cannot reasonably be expected to make a decision on whether or not a player is faking an injury.

The league and the players talked quite a bit about player safety during the CBA negotiations and over the last few years; why would either side be okay with permitting a player who was so severely hurt return to the field after just one play?

To me the one question remains is whether you want to apply the rule strictly to defensive players, to prevent teams from employing this tactic against offenses that are moving the ball, or apply it to both offensive and defensive players?

250k and a 1st rounder? Come on, Roger, they were pretty disrespectful to your beloved Jest this season too :D.

Re: Giants faking injuries

I think what would be effective is that if the offensive team had executed a no huddle play the previous play and was trying to do so again, that the only substitution allowed is for the 'injured' player....as well as not allowing the 'injured' player back in for the remainder of the quarter

Re: Giants faking injuries

My solution would be simple: If a player is injured in any fashion that he interrupts a play or causes the time clock and/or playing to be stopped, that he be forced to remain inactive for the remainder of the quarter, at a minimum.

Offense or defense doesn't matter. If you get knocked down and can't get up or cause play to be disrupted, you get sidelined for the rest of the quarter.

If the player comes back and get reinjured, he's out for the rest of the game.

either that, or just don't allow substitutions during an injury time. everybody stays put until the guy comes off the field. one guy come on, then the ref commences the play, and the defensive team can try to substitute if they think they can get it in before the snap.

Re: Giants faking injuries

It's part of the game. I'm sure we've faked too. How about we avoid putting ourselves in this situations or fake when the other team is in our situation?
Faked injuries is not the reason we lost

Re: Giants faking injuries

Really?

JPP was hurt and was out several plays. Rolle was back 2 plays later, but that happens to every team sometimes. Any player would try to get back as soon as they could for the biggest game of the year. Players can be hurt without being injured. Cramps, getting the wind knocked out, getting retaped,Those type of items happen every game. It's already set up that the player has to set out a play.

Re: Giants faking injuries

Remainder of the quarter is excesive but rest of the drive makes perfect sense.

I think the problem here is that there are legitimate reasons a player may need off the field for a play and if they have to decide if they can afford to be lost for the series they could chose to stay on the field and could further injur themselves.

I think maybe a distinction could be made between stopping a play to get off the field and having it only be a quick delay for you to run off and for your teamate to run on as opposed to dropping to a knee and stopping action for a commercial break.

Basically if your injury requires you to need the assistance of a trainer on the field you are lost for the series. But if you have a minor issue you can temporarly stop action run off the field and send a teamate on in your place only and not be lost for the drive.

I just posted my thoughts and some of it agrees with what you said but I think a distinction can be made between a guy having the wind knocked out of him and him having a ACL injury. One IMO requires the trainer the other the player could signal the ref and slowly walk off with minimal impact on the pace of the game. I see nothing wrong with allowing one player back on the next and stating that the other must wait the series.

Re: Giants faking injuries

But Goodell sent out a memo. As we all know Roger's memo supercedes the NFL rulebook. If the Giants were faking injuries then Goodell needs to fine them and take away a draft pick for ignoring his almighty memo.
