Thanks for an exciting Super Bowl

Hey Patriots fans,

I know the game didn't turn out the way you wanted, but you've gotta admit that this was an epic game for the ages. What an awesome game! It had everything:

• A rare safety to start the game
• Domination by the Giants followed by domination by the Pats
• A one-point game at half-time
• Great receiving by the Pats WR's and TE's
• A stout run defense by the Pats
• Awesome jobs by both punters
• A long drive by NE near the end that could have put the game out of reach, but fell short
• An amazing sideline catch by Mario Manningham
• A gutsy decision by BB to let New York score a TD to conserve the clock
• A slow-motion mental blunder by Bradshaw that gave Brady the time he needed to try to mount a comeback
• A clutch catch by Branch on 4-and-a-prayer to keep the drive alive
• And a Hail Mary pass to the endzone that *almost* worked

As a Broncos fan, I think Super Bowl 32 was the most exciting Super Bowl ever. But this one was a classic matchup that came down to the last play. It's probably my second-favorite SB.

Your team is the cream of the AFC and you represented the conference well. You also killed my Broncos and schooled the Denver defense. Brady was a surgeon against Denver, and your statistically horrible defense made Tebow look like a college QB.

I'm sure it stings to lose, but trust me: it was a great game to watch and thanks to the Patriots and the Giants, it was an exciting game from start to finish.

We all want our teams to win, but nothing -- I REPEAT: NOTHING -- is worse than a Super Bowl blowout. Has anyone on the site ever re-watched the Chicago-NE blowout? Probably not. And I can guarantee you that I will NEVER, EVER re-watch Denver's humiliating 55-10 loss to the 49'ers.

A blowout is so much worse than a close game, and the sting lasts for decades.

I guarantee you that in a few weeks, the majority of the Pats fans who TIVO'd the game will find themselves watching it again, this time more as pure football fans than as Patriots fans. And when they do, they'll have to admit that their team co-starred in one of the greatest Super Bowls in modern history.

A fan looks at the game as possibly a game of inches and a play or two here or there could have been the difference,that hangs on most fans minds for awhile compared to being short dozens of plays.

In a blowout you know by halftime,it's probably over and your nerves relax a bit more and know that the day was simply not your teams day.

Ask the Titans and if they would rather have had a blowout against the Rams or the tackle inches from the goal line,I assure you they would opt for the blowout......no way is a fan recovering from that finish quickly.

I think for the Patriots -- it may be time for a change -- I.E Brady and Coach Bill.. No-one else is going to bring it up -- but either way these guys are old and in 3 years they will be moving on anyway. I say bring on the change sooner rather than later.

I can only guess that you are too young to have experienced a blowout first hand. As an "Old School" Broncos fan, I have experienced several of them. Trust me, the pain of a blowout lingers for decades. The sting of a close loss fades very quickly.

In my book, there are 2 kinds of games: games that are "worth watching again" and "forgettable games". Forgettable games are either boring or are blowouts.

This game is in the "Worth Watching Again" category. It was exciting from start to finish. It went back and forth. There was strategy and tension and shock and awe. And it came down to the final play. In short, it was a classic game.

I would much rather have a close game. Well I would rather have a blowout win, but if the game is a loss I would rather have it come down to the final play than lose by 18.

It was a great game. I thought the first half was rather slow until the final Patriots drive though. The second half was outstanding.

You mean buffalo fans. they sufferd the most from all those SB that they didnt win.

Poor Buffalo indeed. But how many of those games were blowouts?

IIRC all of NE's wins *and* losses in the BB era have been by 3 or 4 points (or something close to that). So most "New School" New England fans have never tasted the bitter disappointment of a blowout.

Be happy that your team ALWAYS shows up to play. A few plays here or there, or one of those fumbles bounces different, and NE wins. It is what it is.

I am interested in seeing how the Broncos build on their success next year. A friend of mine from the Navy is a lifetime Broncos fan, so despite the fact they kicked the Pats around for years (I had the misfortune of great seats for a few blowouts in MA) I still like to see them do well.

One of my favorite "Old School" scenes from the Denver-NE rivalry was when Shannon Sharpe was "calling in the National Guard becase Denver is killin' the Patriots"! Man, those were the days.

Times have changed; lately, the Patriots have been killing Denver. And before that, Denver kept getting killed by Indy year after year in the playoffs. Wait long enough and teams at the top become bottom dwellers. And mediocre teams become dominant. It's what makes the NFL great.

I was old enough to be out on my own and a season ticket holder when the Pats lost to the Bears. There is absolutely no way that losing a blowout feels better than losing a close game; in fact it is not even remotely close.

To me the major difference in the comparison made above regarding how Titans fans felt is that they had never seen (and still never have seen) their team win a championship. In a 32-team league a fan should on average see his team win a championship after 16 years, and then one more every 32 years after that. Based on that I've seen as many championships as I should expect to see in a 80 years; I've witnessed a lifetime worth of championships in the last decade. It's as if I'm playing with house money at this point. If I had never seen the Pats win a championship I would surely feel differently, but since that's not the case I am quite calm this morning - something that co-workers, customers and family are rather surprised to see.

OK, the Pats have gone 29-6 in the past two years . . . and it's time to dump BB and Brady?

I was old enough to be out on my own and a season ticket holder when the Pats lost to the Bears. There is absolutely no way that losing a blowout feels better than losing a close game; in fact it is not even remotely close.

I actually felt sorry for Patriots fans after that crushing defeat to Chicago. The only thing that went wrong in that game is that Ditka inexplicably forget to let Sweetness score a TD. Otherwise, the Patriots were humiliated on national television.

A few years later, I got to experience that horrible, HORRIBLE feeling when Denver was humiliated by the Redskins in the Super Bowl when the game got away in the second quarter (what did they score? 4 or 5 TD's? I forget). Then, if that weren't bad enough, we were utterly and completely destroyed by the San Francisco 49'ers, 55-10. I still haven't even seen even a single YouTube video from that game; it's just too painful. And humiliating.

For weeks after that game, I was a laughingstock in the office. I just wanted to crawl in a hole and hibernate for 6 months.

So hold your heads up high, Pats fans. You played a close game and you lost the game on the final play. That's the way to go down. Fighting till the last minute with a chance to win it at the end.
