Saw this thread on another site (SoSH), and thought it would be a good idea here.

I realize that the pain is still super fresh for all of us, but what better way to talk about how we can get back to the show next year and win it? The re-tooling of the roster starts now. Who do you want?

Brandon Lloyd.

Any other help needed can be got through the draft/players returning off IR. I would also like to a see a change in defensive philosophy and have more attacking players on the DL who get into the backfield on a regular basis, give the secondary some help by actually creating consistent pressure.

Re-signing Anderson & Carter is a must.

- Brandon Lloyd, but only if Brady can reliably hit the deep ball in 2012, i dont know if he can anymore.

These kind of players just dont grow on trees. BB has never shown a move to pressure Defense, and he aint changing now.

As for FA, they've got many decisions....Welker, BJGE, Connolly, Koppen, Carrter et al...Draft is again crapshoot, and he will again trade bunch more picks for future and draft more to be IR'd DB's.

Sorry, but I just don't see this team setup for another run. We will do well in regular season once again because AFC sucks all in all, but they've been flawed in playoffs ever since they decided to make Brady the focal point in 2006 season. That was compounded by one pathetic draft after another, and lousy FA decisions.

We won when and how ? When we had a good defense, played smart ball control ball with Corey, even with bunch of no names for WR or TE

We are the NE Colts now.......all stats in regular season, and garbage in playoffs

Cortland Finnegan.

And get rid of Arrington and Molden somehow if any teams are dumb enough to want them....

Arrington? The dude has been arguably the most reliable CB for us since 2010. No way in hell.

I'd definately love Lloyd depending on the price. The guy can make plays and if his record with Josh McDaniels is any indication then i'm all for him.

Someone to replace Ihedigbo and Ohco Cinco.

You made me LOL twice in one (ish) sentence.

Dream scenario, Super Mario. Like Big-T, I would like to see a more attacking defensive scheme, as well as utilize press man coverage to better defend against pass oriented offenses. Something like the attacking 4-3 we saw early in the pre-season that got us all excited.

Your deep ball point....I wonder that too. As far as roster building....Just find a WR that safeties have to worry about. Branch and Ocho are not NFL starters.

Brady is one of the most inaccurate long ball throwers in the league. In fact, Brady has a limited repetoire of throws. There is the 15-20 yard seam. The 10 yard out, and various short routes over the middle. He does not throw a good deep ball, a good fade, or any other kind of pass that requires a lot of touch. What he can throw, he has tremendous accuracy with, but he is limited in some respects.

Look at Brady's Recent Deep passes, all of them are weak, dying quail inaccurate. The Slater pass/interception in the AFCCG and the deep interception to Gronk in the SB are great examples of this, Brady has lost power and accuracy and if he cant reliably deliver them next year it wont matter who you bring in here, good defenses wont need to put safety help on deep threat WRs because any corner in the league can make a play on those balls.

At most, Belichick probably has one high profile signing and a bunch of veteran, complimentary, situational players. A vertical threat and a corner are the two ideal targets. I don't think we'll have room for both, assuming we re-sign/franchise Welker, Carter, Anderson, etc etc.

I like the idea of Lloyd and Finnegan. A name I haven't seen thrown out enough though is someone like Robert Mathis. Indy is probably in full rebuild mode, so Mathis probably isn't going to be re-signed. Still might be out of our price range. He's still pretty damn good, and has a big name.

Finnegan is a knucklehead.

Cortland Finnegan? Am I taking crazy pills? That guy is an idiot and would be the exact opposite of what the young D needs.

Having given this deep ball issue 4 minutes of thought.....who on the current roster is the deep ball threat. I don't see one. Who on the roster has the size to effectively work the sidelines. I don't see one. When this season opened up, Brady was chucking it all over the field, 20-30 yarders with amazing accuracy, because the early season D's weren't ready yet. The deep ball is so low percentage that Brady and BB have taken it off the table. Give Brady a deep leaper and things will improve

Most of the stuff he has available are over the middle and those are all based on accuracy and timing.

Hard to judge his deep ball when we throw it deep like 10 plays all year and i'll give you that he has been off when they have tried it but it's not like he has a legit target out there to feel confident about.

Rodgers has multiple guys that can flat out beat their man. Same goes for Eli,Rapistburger,Brees,Romo,Stafford

We just don't have that big play target. It's either Wes,Gronk,AH YAC.

Just posted it in a similar "team needs" type thread but the guy to target is Mario Williams. Turned 27 years old a week ago, has the versatility to play in the 4-3 or 3-4 and is exactly the kind of defensive difference maker that we lack. Vince and Mayo are damn good football players but it's difficult at their positions to influence the game as much as a guy like JPP or Tuck or Mario Williams can in a league that has become extremely pass happy. Considering how young he is, it's rare to have a guy like this become a FA. Usually guys this talented hit FA at 30 like Peppers, Nnamdi and Adalius.

At 27, he's probably got another 4-5 elite years which matches up with the Brady (and possibly Belichick?) window.

The pass to Slater was a bad throw. That's one. Brady got nailed and couldn't follow through on the pass to Gronk. So, if your argument is that Brady is less accurate when getting hit simulataneously, I would agree. That INT wasn't even a huge deal in the game because if that falls incomplete, we probably punt after a 3rd and long. We would have been lucky to see Mesko place that ball quite as deep. God forbid we expect our defense to not give up 3 first downs before we even think about making a stop.

How about the Branch throw against Denver, the Hernandez throw against Buffalo, and the Ocho throw in Denver? Or are we counting those as intermediate passes? Welker vs. Jets?

The Brandon Lloyd obsession is out of hand. He has one pretty good season after being a mediocre malcontent, and then he's traded for a 5th round pick. Is Chad Jackson available?

Have you given much thought as to why the roster doesn't have a deep threat? its a YAC centric offense now because Brady isnt as powerful or as accurate. hes still a great player.

OchoCinco came in here and he wasn't going to be a deep threat either, he could run routes and fill in here and there, but he just didnt understand the offense, branch understood the offense and has a kind of mindmeld with Brady, so thats why he played more.
