The sting is already fading

It took me until after the game to realize this, but I never really had the feeling that this was the Pats' year. That made it sting a lot less. I'd take this loss over the 07 and 10 losses, because those were both years where it just felt like it was their year. This year just always felt like a buildup to a better 2011 season. Heck, it was weeks before I could think about the draft last year after the Jets loss, but I think I'll get a mock together tomorrow night.

your right bro....I am a pats fan for life....this sting hurt, but it makes me want to the offseason to start now....I thought the defense played good with what we have...need some high picks on the d-line and DB's

The sting faded when I realized that BOB will no longer be our OC. His play calling drives me crazy, especially in this game. How the hell does he only call 10 running plays in a game like this? Woodhead, BJGE, and Ridley all active and only 10 running plays. Ridiculous. Isn't it common practice to run the ball when a team has the lead? What does he do? Pass the ball of course.
Bah, I'm just glad that he is gone. Thank you for your service BOB. Good luck and don't come back!!

I miss Charlie Weiss. I know that he's not walking through that door, but I really miss him.

I don't want to be the one to push you off the ledge, but how often did mcdaniels run it against the giants in '07?

That thought has also crossed my mind. Sometimes I wish Belichick and Urban Meyer never talked about the Spread.

That was the Maroney show. I can't blame him for not running the ball more with him. Maroney had his chances, and he failed. I'll bet he will do more with BJGE and Woodhead. Woodhead and Ridley were not on the team when McDaniels was here in 07 and BJGE was a backup. It will be interesting to see how he uses these guys next season.

Look, I appreciate the attempt to make a positive outlook (I really do), but the way I see it is that instead of being so close to reaching their goal last night, today they are back to square one along with 30 other teams.

Going into this offseason BB has plenty of ammo and cap space to work with to improve in some key positions and the few game changers were lacking to really be back on top.

Would had more if they didn't overpay Mankins! That guy was total gutless!!!! How can you get beat by the same player TWICE in the BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR????

The one person I really feel bad for is Bobby Kraft. I wanted it for Myra pretty badly.

Just looking at the what the schedule should look like, how far we came with the defense we have I feel great going into next season. We went 13-3 against an extremely tough schedule and went to the superbowl. I think we can all agree that we can improve and become a better team next season.

You're kidding right. Much of the season was against the backup-QB parade.

He missed the part where the Pats played only two regular season games against teams that finished over .500

I agree with this I was very nervous going into the game, very grateful the Pats were there, and I'm still grateful. I thought they played great -- just not great enough. Welker hangs on to a throw he almost always hangs on to -- albeit a difficult catch -- and the story is completely different.

Be glad this is the team we root for.

Exactly!
Some of the fickle fanboys on this site are making me physically ill. I'm sure the receivers who missed catches that should have been made are feeling worse than any of us. Welker looked as though he were going to cry.

Personally...i've cooled off and accepted it. I wanted this win so bad for Brady,BB and the Krafts but it wasn't meant to be. Time to move on and look forward to next season and there is no reason to believe that we can't return to the SB next year.

Just chill out guys and remember...we had a heck of a season and i'm sure MHK would be proud.

The sting is gone for me. Especially when I look back and think to 2009. That team was gutless.

Then I look back at this team and how they battled all season. How they battled back even in this game. If BB and crew continue to work towards building the best team they can, we'll have a shot.

I am a new Patriots fan after going (literally) decades without feeling anything for a pro team. My daughters led me to the Patriots this year and am happy they did. Yes, I am sad and disappointed this morning, but you know what - to actually FEEL this way is something I am glad to be able to experience. To be a genuine fan again of a team, to feel joy and euphoria when they win and sadness when they do not - this is wonderful!

The game was exciting but heartbreaking, but the sting is indeed fading. I am now looking forward to following the team in the off-season, the draft, training camp, a new season, and beyond.

Nothing will compare to the 07 loss. This one is in the books. Looking forward to next season and hopefully they gain the missing pieces for one final run w/Brady.

The 2007 loss had me heartbroken.

I'm getting over this already. In fact I felt much much worse last year losing to the Jets in the Divisional Round.

this was a freebie. Never thought they'd get to the SB with this defense. Having said that, this was a winnable game. I felt better about it right after than I do now.

It is what it is.

This is why the sting isn't fading. I put a lot of time into the team this year simply because I still believe Brady is the best and his window is fading. I've been a Patriots fan through Fairbanks, Ehrardt, Meyer, Rust and MacPherson. I know that things are going to change when Brady and Belichick leave. I'll still be a big fan, but I won't be as emotionally invested. The window is closing and that's what makes this loss very very tough.

It will take a very long while to get over it. I got over 07 because I thought about karma, and 2001. This one, as flawed as the Patriots were this year, this one kills. The Giants deserved to win, bit man, I do really think that they are the crappiest Super Bowl winner in ages. I'd rather face this team again than the 2007 team.

The '07 loss was like mourning a death. The Jets and Ravens loss were #1 and #1a. This isn't on par with that at all.

This.

I didn't expect us to be in the Superbowl this year.

And when all this is said and done years from now, we will still marvel over the fact that they got to 5 SBs during this run.

That is, if they don't get to 6.;)
