First off, does such a thing really exist?

If so, has a team with one ever won a damn thing?

BB did the best he could with the talent we have on D. Giving up 21 points with what we have as an excuse for a secondary is hardly terrible.

But in doing so, you're letting the other team dictate the pace of the game, and leaving much less time for your own offense.

It didn't work tonight. Those FG the giants kept making allowed them to chip away the lead. Also there is no doubt in my mind that the Giants wanted to kick the game winning FG. They did not expect the pats to let them walk into the endzone like that.

The 2001 Patriots were a bend-don't-break defense. The defense held the Giants to 21 points which is only one point less than the 49ers allowed and other than that game is the least amount of points allowed by the Giants since December 18th when the Redskins held them to 10 points. Plus, it is less than the 24.6 PPG that the Giants averaged this year.

If you said before tonight that if the Pats' defense held the Giants to 21 points, you would think the Pats win this game. Also, the Pats caused three fumbles which they were just unlucky to recover two.

Correction, the Defense held the Giants to 19 points. The Safety falls on the Offense.

Oh yeah, you are right. Considering the whole world said the Pats' defense wouldn't be able to stop the Giants' offense, they did keep them out of the end zone a lot.

after the 3 manning losses in 07,08 and 12, and the way Flacco could have one the game two weeks ago, I think the bendbutdon't break defense is really great against crappy regular season opponents but not so great against good playoff teams.

Was there any doubt eli was going to get at least a FG in that last drive? there was no question about it. Even if that bomb had gotten overthrown, i'm still convinced they probably would have marched down the field for a FG.

Secondary played one of the best game since...well maybe 07...Moore and Chung where awesome, Molden gave up a few plays but most plays where great catches really by Nicks in good coverage

I'm positive by this secondary with a better pass rush maybe this D can perform big next year

That was no doubt in my mind. Pats kept allowing FGs and with a 2 point lead I knew they were not going to prevent the Giants from scoring. Bomb or no bomb Giants were going to get within at least FG range. No one should be surprised that the D could not hold.

Bend but dont break means do not allow big plays as opposed to risking big plays by being overly aggressive.
And yes, bend but dont break has won a lot, including the 3 SBs the Patiots have won, and actually the one the Giants won tonight.

Bend but don't break defense works when your offense is scoring TDs and your defense is only giving up FGs.

Intrersting because the Giants played bend but dont break defense in this game.

2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles (2 not recoverd and 1 negated on ninko's offside). Ya, this D is limited and they can't cover for **** but for the most part they did there job. Bounces just didn't go trhere way. Could have easily has at least 2 turnovers

That is 100% correct. Normally just giving up FG as a worse case scenario is great. The problem is the offense was not scoring and every time the Giants got a FG they were permanently chipping away the lead.

Yeah, the Pats only gave up 47 more yards than the Giants. The Pats gave up 396 yards and the Giants gave up 349 yards.

Come on.

The 49ers were one of the best defenses in the league this year and gave up 20 points to the Giants. Some of those were gifts from the fumbles, but still, we gave up 19 and fewer passing yards than the 49ers.

Don't put this on the D. They played a solid game tonight.

for someone with as many posts as you, i would classify this response as pretty disingenuous since I know you actually know that the giants can rush the passer even while dropping 7 maybe 8 into coverage.

What does how many players they rush have to do with a bend-don't-break defense. A bend-don't-break defense means you give up a lot of yards, but not a lot of points. That is exactly what the Giants did tonight.

Absolutely. The D did what they had to do and gave the O a chance to do it and again the Offense failed, which is becoming all to common. I want a defense that people are afraid of.

And that's ironic, because they're the worst regular season scoring defense to ever win a Super Bowl.

correction, they held them to 19 which included giving them a td at the end, most likely.
not trying to take it away from them, but maybe if the situation was different they hold them to 3 on that drive --- I'm just saying maybe.

anyway, I don't see how the offense is any less to blame than the defense.
