From the article.....

So it hasn’t just been using linebackers and, some say, defensive backs (though Scarnecchia wouldn’t confirm that). In addition, Belichick has instructed the speed squad to line up on top of the ball — offsides — to decrease the reaction time of the linemen. Considering the Pats went in full pads last Friday and last Monday, they almost certainly drilled the linemen with this approach.

Oh that crafty Belichick.

Did not see this posted as a thread topic.
Thought it was quite an an interesting way to simulate the NASCAR speed
in practice.

Patriots pull a fast one - BostonHerald.com

I have always found some of the things that Belichick does in practices, like those described in this article fascinating. However there is also a part of me that wishes that it was not made public; why share the methods with 31 other teams? Why make the information on what they are doing in preparation for a game public prior to that game being played?

I realize it probably won't help the Giants in the least in this game, or any future opponent in the way they prepare, but why take the risk that it could? I was under the impression that the reporters at practices were not supposed to provide something this specific in terms of what the team was doing.

Yep, this is some trade secrets...I don't want 'em out there, though maybe everyone knows about them already.

Perhaps Silvestro showed them something they can use vs the Giants. He is undersized and quick

I gotta believe something as obvious as lining up pass rushers offsides to simulate faster pass rushers, or lining receivers up offsides to simulate faster receivers is well know.

It will be interesting to see which DL is inactive to let Silvestri be active. Maybe it's not even a DL, who knows. Could be BB wants to keep his DL fresh and an extra body does that.

I felt that way about the 30 minute break.
Figured Gmen would be on that the next day,
never heard one way or the other?

Also, isn't all this stuff open to a pool reporter,
access required by the NFL?

let breer comment to rapsheet on this

RapSheet Ian R. Rapoport
Sounds like a good job all week from DBs and LBs lining up over the ball as DEs, and rushing from all angles to mimic Giants bit.ly/xOWC8G

Albert Breer
@RapSheet Falcons did the same thing during Wild Card week -- Lining up pass rushers offsides to acclimate to NYG burst off the ball.

@AlbertBreer LOL, so it doesn't ALWAYS work

Albert Breer
@RapSheet Haha ... Yeah. But Patriots do that stuff a lot. They lined up Slater (as scout-team Wallace) 3 yds offsides on O for Steeler week
