Whether or not this version of the Patriots becomes a dynasty depends solely upon their success in the Super Bowl(s), however I think Belichik is close to having another team that can play at a high enough level for long enough to make that a real possibility going forward, especially if they win Sunday. He has basically rebuilt an entire team around Brady from the dynasty they had in the first 6 years of the 2000's and they have the young core, the cap space, and the draft picks to finish the job and roll out a team for the next 4-5 years that will contend for the AFC Championship and Lombardi through that time. On offense they really only need a Center and a couple of WR's and they will be completely set. On defense they need help at every level but also have the core pieces for each unit to make finishing the build much easier, i won't be surprised if he has a top 3-5 defense in the next year or so. Their ST's are excellent and they are also set there and teams seem to have finally backed off on the yearly raids on their coaching staff, although that will heat up once again if they win another Lombardi or two. The last piece in the puzzle is the competition, and for the first time in a long long time it really seems as if the AFC is on the decline and the NFC is on the rise, so although it will become a little easier to get to the Bowl it will be tougher to win it.

When i look at the AFC I see the East in disarray. Miami has another new coaching staff, the Bills are getting better but always seem to have the bad season that gets each staff canned and the endless instability always undermines them. The Jets are a mess and I think it can only get worse for the near term.

The North: Pittsburgh is always tough and will be with Roethlisberger and Tomlin there, but the defense is really getting old and they need the same rebuild the Patriots had to do on that side of the ball-complete turnover. Same for baltimore although Flacco is not in the same class as roethlisberger, but Harbaugh is a really good coach. the Ravens are well run and will stay competitive but won't be as good as they have been. Cincy is getting better but they have to do much more before I will give them credit. They have been able to get to this pointy before but never get past it, until they get to the AFC Championship a couple of times i will continue to doubt them. Cleveland shows no signs of progress no matter what they do.

The South: Houston is the only threat here and they are probably the Patriots biggest threat to repeat as AFC champs next year. they are a really good team with few weaknesses, they will be tough. Indy is toast for the next few years, Luck or not, that team needs a complete overhaul. Tennessee is OK but not much more and they don't have a QB, and that is a killer. Jacksonville is Jacksonville and they still have a ton of work to do to become truly competitive.

The West: I don't believe Tebow is an NFL QB at this point, however he is a winner and he works his ass off. If he can somehow fix his mechanics and become an accurate passer then he could become a decent QB, if he doesn't he'll have to find another position. I won't be surprised if he is an H-Back in NE someday. The Chargers are a mess and will stay that way with Norb, tons of talent, no team. Oakland is getting better but have another organizational overhaul to deal with, how that goes is yet to be determined. K.C. is getting better and may win the west next year with RAC running the show. How Cassel fares will likely determine the outcome of their season and his future.

Overall I think the Texans are going to be the toughest competition for the Patriots next season, but they may never even meet when the play-offs roll around, and i think that the conference as a whole will be easier to get through than it has been in a long time, if they can get back to the Bowl next season then they will almost certainly face their toughest competition in the Bowl as the NFC is on the rise and GB, NO, SF, the NYG, and possibly Atlanta, and Detroit will be tough.

To sum it up the situation is perfect for the Patriots to go on another tear and i really believe they will do just that. We'll see.

I think BB wants to smash all NFL records with Tom and then to solidify himself as best coach, do it again AFTER Tom. I see him here for 10-15 more years.

He's said he doesnt want to coach into his late 60's. So I'd say another 5 seasons max.

After watching A Football Life it wouldn't surprise me if BB one day coached the Giants. It's obvious he still loves that organization and would probably be an honor for him to coach there.

What better way to show you care than to crush them?

I always took that "I'm not coaching into my 70s" comment figuratively, that he simply meant there'd be no desperate clinging to the job, that he wouldn't deny any personal signs that it was time to let go. I want to believe that *if* he still feels peppy at 70 he keeps coaching.

BB and Brady for another 5 years?

I'll take it !!

Maybe another 2 or 3 SB visits and another Lombardi or 2 would be UNBELIVABLE...

But I'm getting ahead of things....

One game at a time..

Just win the next one :)

Given the 2012 opponents, the Patriots are in a position where getting:

WR1 - who can threaten middle deep (i.e. Brandon Lloyd)
DE/OLB
DE/OLB
CB
S

would put them in a position to threaten 16-0 again, because there's very little age as an issue with this team. I don't see BB walking away from that.

AFC East rival fans must of been disappointed by that answer.

Regardless of the answer I have to admit that year after year I get more scared about the realism that Belichick, Brady and Bob Kraft will not be around forever.

Why BB will be interested the next couple of years, core roster of a mentally tough team that BB loves coaching.

Developing a new innovative O with 2 TE base, as DI said above add B Lloyd (and resign WW) you have a monster O. Impact potentially of Bill Walsh developing West Coast O.

Developing a new innovative D with a Hybrid 2 gap 1 gap front. Impact potentially of J Johnson introducing 4-3.

I think BB relishes the Intellectual challenge of these sorts of innovations. He and E Adams are having a blast right. When he works out the details of his new O and D this team will be something over the next few years.

IMO J Kraft has been groomed to take over and I think B Kraft has worked out the business structure to transition the ownership of the team, this is a great ownership for us.

IMO whe BB retires from coaching he will still be involved in some capacity, perhaps he and Ernie Adams will work in the background as mad scientist/ system architects.

Isn't his contract expiring this year?

I am confident he will re-sign (if this year or next); but it would be nice if that was locked in.

I suspect lock-in doesnt matter -- kraft will keep reupping as log as bill wants & bill isnt going to leave to go to aother org.

So whether bill signs 1 year contracts or 10 year contracts, he'll keep coaching until he decides to retire.

Nope. He ain't doing the Tuna thing. He's good at all of it but it's the teaching and game planning that frosts his oreos. As good as he is at evaluating talent and projecting cap and value scenarios, that's more of a grind. He won't leave until he's tired of the whole enchilada (at the NFL level) and he won't block someone else from taking their shot or loom over their shoulder like some dark shadow. He's not going to become the thing he ran from.

I console myself with the hope/faith that we'll get our version of Seifert and Young :rocker: I've also gotten philosophical about such things: old stories have to end to make room for new ones.

Suspect that BB will stay on post Brady, to show that he was not defined by #12....

As much as he says stats do not influence what he does and what motivates him, currently he is at 175 wins.. right behind Knox(186), Reeves(190), Noll(193), Schottenheimer(200) and Paul Brown(213)

I think he will minimally want to surpass Brown, so he can included in the conversation as one of the greatest of all time..

Lambeau, Landry, Hallas and Shula can remain the top 4 of all time...

Belichick is a huge football historian and also grew up as a big fan of Paul Brown; I would not doubt at all that he would like to surpass Brown's mark.

Does anyone think Belichick wants to stay around long enough to pass Shula's all time win total of 328?

Also, Landry has the coaching playoff win record of 20. With a win tomorrow (no jinx), Belichick moves to 16 playoff wins. I'd think Belichick would want that record.

Of course, a win tomorrow also ties Belichick with Noll for all-time Super Bowl victories.

You make some astute points Deus. BB's re-tool/rebuild of the Patriots has been nothing short of masterful in a short period of time.

If we win tomorrow Brady will be at 17 playoff wins and BB will be at 18 wins (he beat Pats/Parcells while with the Brownies). Then when we win the SB next year her will eclispe Landry with 21 Playoff wins.........:D
