Doyel is so stupid he can't even spell his name right.

Had to laugh at this:

"How could Julian Edelman be his nickel cornerback in the Super Bowl?"

Um, because his play there helped them get to the Super Bowl?

Why do you read this stuff? Why do you expect us to link to it and put ourselves through reading it.

How could we question the great football mind that is Gregg Doyel?

Who are we to believe that idiot from down the street, what is his name...Beli-check or something, knows anything about football?

Sweet! More Lowest Common Denominator fodder from the media on this game!

Don't you all just love "analysis" like this?

:bricks:

I just heard Tom Jackson say that Eli Manning may have to worry about the New England defense and highlighted Ninkovich in particular saying he's really brought his game up (special sauce as they called it -- meaning he's focring lots of sacks and fumbles).

I'm gonna be laughing my ass off if we win the superbowl with Edelman at Nickelback. It will be the ultimate F.U. to the league. I hope Edelman gets a pick 6.

I watched no SportCenter, no NFL live except for a few minutes this afternoon and have pretty much avoided all coverage of the Superbowl. We know this team and we know what they're capable of, we're playing a team that for some reason has been deemed the best team ever despite being statistically no better than us. We just don't get paid to go on TV and babble incessantly over a 2 week period. Come Monday I'll watch and see who is calling the Pat's win an upset.

Someone should make a list of these Patiots can't win articles so we can see what these writers say on Monday.
What is hilarious is BB has not only the media but the Giants players focussed on Edelman playing defense, and he may not even be out there.

I've seen so much TV at this point, especially this afternoon with Gruden, Ditka, A Pierce, Rice, Schlereth, Bruschi, Dilfer, etc., and then Stephen A. and Skippy, and also Reiss, Cimini and Ohm, that I'm half convinced the Patriots are going to get blown out.

I mean, you have coaches and top player talking about the Patriots losing at all phases of the game, even special teams.

You listen to enough of this stuff and it's convincing. It's like Chinese water torture.

I agree completely... this team knows what is at stake and to have my friends and all the media basically giving them the Lombardi trophy pisses me off enough. I have watched a little but I have been turning it off because all the haters on ESPN except Tedy Bruschi- Haters will Hate; cant wait to laugh in their faces!

On the focus on Edelman, here is his playing time on D game by game

AFCC 27 (note that Arrington missed 24 due to injuy)
Dic playoff 4
Wk 17 41
Wk 16 0
Wk 15 0
Wk 14 19
Wk 13 0
Wk 12 16
Wk 11 13
Wk 10 5
Wk 1-9 0

So all of this attention is on a guy who played 125 snaps all season, 41 in the last game of the season when McCourty was tried out at safety and we rested people and 27 more last week while Arrington was out.
Take those out and you have a guy who played 57 snaps all season and wasn't on defense at all in 3 of 4 games from week 13-16.
I am so happy the Giants are preparing for Edelman being a key piece of our defense, and expect him covering Cruz or Nicks man to man all day.

When you look at those snaps above (and from the other thread), it looks like Edelman is essentially the number six defensive back for the Pats right now.

Yet to hear the Giants and many in the media talk about it, you would be convinced that he's the Pats top corner.

I think what the media and Giants are really keying in on is the fact that when the game was on the line, with Baltimore driving down field, Edelman was in Man coverage on Baltimores #1 WR.

Arrington had come back to the game at that point, or did he leave once again after he had returned?

Ah yes...the big market team gets the favorable national press. When it was Giants vs Packers it was an endless litany of "What the Giants needed to do to win". "Well if they can protect Manning then the wide outs will cut into the weak Packer secondary and on and on and on." You got 55 minutes of what the Giants needed to do and then 5 minutes of guys picking the Packers for "balance". Lets not tell the New Yorkers what they don't want to hear cause they will just change the channel until they find somebody that does tell them what they want to hear. However for 5 minutes of air time, let them go ahead and channel surf if they want to.

Now it is what the Giants are going to do to win cause they are being favored. It really does get your dander up after two weeks of this nonsense.

What amazes me is that the Patriots aren't considered a better offense than the Giants despite;

1. Passing for more yards,
2. Rushing for more yards,
3. Passing for more yards per attempt,
4. Rushing for more yards per attempt,
5. Completing a higher % of throws,
6. Higher QB rating,
7. More passing TD's,
8. More rushing TD's, &
9. Less interceptions.

I must have bricks in my head reading how great the Giants Offense and Eli Manning are compared to the Tom Brady lead Patriots Offense.

The whole thing makes you sick after awhile. Regardless of who wins it won't be because one team dominated the other team in every phase of the game.

The Giants offense is better, their defense is better, their special teams are better, their receivers are better and the biggest insult of all, their quarterback is better.

DB snaps
Chung 73/73
McC 73
Ihedigbo 61
Arrington 48
Moore 46
Edelman 27
Moulden 13
Jones 1

Arrington missed 25, Edelman played 27.
And again, aside from his tryout playing 41 snaps vs Buffalo, Edelman went into last week having played 23 snaps in 5 games, and only 34 others in the entire rest of the season before that.
Its really a non-issue. Edelman is not a regular part of the defense.

And even more importantly 119 more points scored.

But hey, the Giants offense is hot because it only needed 2 punt fumbles in the red zone to score 20 points in the NFCCG while we could only muster 23 in the AFCCG and their 37 in the divisional round is much better than our 45 (while coasting for the last 25 minutes of the game and trying not to score)
