I don't like Rick Reilly, but that article was amusing.

One thing I'll argue is at the end when he says: "If the Fifth Son wins this Super Bowl, he goes down as one of the five greatest quarterbacks in history." I'd say Brady is already there, and a win Sunday would put him, at the very least, side-by-side with Joe Montana for the greatest ever IMO.

Yeah, that whole Pats thing. My bad. I'm not from New England; Steve Grogan was a hero to most (in, like, Waltham) but he never meant sh!t to me. So why will I be pulling for the Brady bunch on Sunday?

Because I am a compulsive cheerer. While some guys like to gamble to heighten their interest in the outcome of a sporting event, I like to establish a rooting interest. It's annoying and I've almost been suplexed by some of my best friends for coming over to their houses and cheering for the wrong team, but it is what it is, and what it is is my cross to bear.

Now, there's one big reason I'm going to be pulling for the Pats on Sunday: Because I am a hater. I've lived in this wonderful, exciting town for 10 years, but I still wish nothing but utter misery and ruin on New York's sports franchises. You can take the boy out of Philadelphia, but you can't take the sore-losing, Giants-hating jerk out of the boy.

Sadly I had to look that word up. The last time I looked up a word on Patsfans was "Dog Faker." See…patsfans is not a misuse of my time. It has increased my vocabulary of words that I will probably never use again.

In all objectivity and seriousness ... I completely agree.

A lot of people bring up the fact that Montana was 4-0 in Super Bowls while Brady is 3-1 (and obviously could be 4-1 after Sunday).

The undefeated in Super Bowls thing is great - and Montana very well might always be the greatest QB performer in Super Bowl history. But just by sheer logic, winning four Super Bowls and getting to another is better than just winning four Super Bowls. Furthermore, Brady's got plenty left in the tank. He might get to or win another Super Bowl next year, the year after that, or the year after that.
People also forget that Montana wasn't always perfect. He had some blunders in the playoffs as well (notably against Minnesota after the '87 season).

And finally, in Montana's day, the NFC title game was for all real intents and purposes the de facto Super Bowl - the game where the two best teams in the league played (with the dominance of the 49ers, Giants, Redskins, and Cowboys of that era). In should be noted that Montana did start and ultimately lose one of those (while getting knocked out of the game) against the Giants and just missed out at a shot at something pretty much every bit as hard as going 19-0 (three-peat).

Top 5? Is the guy kidding us? Let's put it this way: Brady could throw 64 straight interceptions and zero TDs on his next 64 passes, and he'd STILL have 3 more Super Bowls and a better TD-INT ratio than Dan frickin' Marino (the guy some still think was the greatest pure passer of all time).
