Okay, so maybe MacMullen's articles aren't the only must reads this week.

As an old ARHS Hurricane and UMass faculty brat, I love seeing my hometown so well represented on Sunday.

Two UMass players starting in the Superbowl. Amazing.

You're from Amhearst? My Dad was from Granby. My grandfather and grandmother are buried in North Hadley..

I have to say that I really am impressed by the ESPN Boston contingent. They've had a great week of articles..

Man, I really love that kid........... maybe not so much as our #1 SS  ....... But you know what I'm saying.

Tough, tenacious and gritty. What a good read.

May we assume that it wasn't your empty beer bottles that the family were going around collecting? ;)

Wonder how many times he will hurt his shoulder on sunday

Definitely a nice read and makes me appreciate Ihedigbo more.

His parents are awesome though. When he was playing for the Jets, his parents were Pats fans but would root for him. When the Jets used to play the Pats, they would root for the Pats. LOL

I like James, his story, like Green Ellis is a good one. He may not be the best safety in the league but he solidified things back there when it needed it. Good story, thanks for posting. James Ihedigbo is a class act.

When the lockout finally ended in late July, Ihedigbo was in for a rude surprise. The Jets did not re-sign him. For weeks afterward, no team came forward with an offer. It appeared quite possible that at age 27, James Ihedigbo was done as an NFL player.

The season opener was less than a month away when Cullen stepped away from the reception at a wedding to call up his old protégé.

"James, what are you doing?"

"Coach -- you're never going to believe it. I just signed with the Patriots."

"That's awesome! How are you celebrating?"

"Well, I'm just studying the playbook."
LOL he's a keeper! Great piece thanks for posting it!

Nice read.

It might have been perfect if it inclued a pronunciation guide for his last name.

:p Nah, I was a townie in Amherst, not a student. I grew up thinking of the UMass frats as "those bad-smelling buildings with the ugly lawn chairs out front."

But on a further personal note...Amherst Regional High School and Wesleyan University are about as far from athletic powerhouses as you can get. Pretty darned cool to have both of my alma maters represented on the Patriots sideline!
