Picks the Chargers to run away 31-17. Gives San Diego the advantage on offense, defense and special teams. Hey, don't pull any punches, Tom, give them a clean sweep.

The former home town columnist must have felt bad, because he offered coaching and intangibles to the Patriots.

I guess that fellow in the gray sweatshirt and the look in Brady's eye are going to have carry the ball over the goal line.

This actually worries me. Curran knows his stuff and last year he picked Denver to beat the Pats. The only relief is that Curran is no longer entrenched with the Pats and may be a bit out of touch.

Curran is good, in fact he's among the best of the sportswriters. Smart, well-spoken, witty and insightful. Thankfully, neither he nor anyone else on this planet can pick a football game.

Me, I'm going with that twinkle in Brady's eye. Didn't look to me like he was afraid of San Diego's merry men.

Curran is a straight forward reporter who is giving his honest opinion of a game, without now (on NBC.com) not having to worry about cackling from home town fans if his predictions are not what they like.

It's just a prediction, no more insightful than many on this board could give. It's something to read - it means zippo.

sports writers are no different than me ,you or anyone else, that why it surprises me that everyone gets so upset about pedictions, scores and coumns, its their opinion just like everyone else in the world has a opinion, id like to start to limit threads or posts about these idiots it has no revelance to any thing, its like posting my prediction and getting worried, who the hell cares!

exactly, writers, analysts, and who the hell ever have been wrong all playoffs, I actually like the fact they are picking SD, please pick them...if we lose we were supposed to if we win they eat crow, that they should be full on by now anyways, and the fact these clowns pick SD just gets the boys pissed anyways. Please keep giving reason why we should lose...please....

Amen to that. When the pundits go against us,its usually a good thing...

But I'm always worried. Not pessimistic, just nervous. A smart guy like Curan picking against us makes me think about losing, and I don't like that. But I also worry when writers pick us because it might jinx us.

My point? I should stop reading predictions.

We all know why the Pats lost that game.

Curran has changed quite a bit since he left the ProJo. He was on EEI the other day and seemed like he was trying to distance himself from being thought of as a local boy/Pats guy. I think he is over compensating.

:agree:

He is trying to endear himself to a totally different audience. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that NE has a few matchups in its favor.

He sounded absolutely bipolar.

The Chargers are the obvious choice, but my belief in the Pats is that BB can come up with an effective game plan and that BB saves some of his best plans for the playoffs. I think one of the reasons we lost to the Broncos and the Colts earlier in the season is that BB played his cards close to the chest, in case we had to meet them in the post-season. Against the Chargers, BB will unleash the full potential of the team. If we execute well, we win, and our edge in experience should help us execute.

who cares what he picks...
if SD wins will be come back to this thread and appreciate his call ? i guess not .But we are on him for not picking us for some reason. Its his opinion and so be it.

Actually, when you really look at the numbers, NE and SD are very evenly matched. It won't take "unleashed potential" for NE to win. If they play as well as they have the past 3-4 weeks, it will be the Chargers that have their work cut out for them.

That said, SD has been far more consistent this season, so I have no problem with people picking them because it is more of a certainty that they play a good game than NE does.

pat jew you need to go to some serious counseling if you think any sports writer has a influence in a game looks like youve been eating a few to manny noodles

And you need a refresher course in irony.

Cold, Hard Football Facts for January 8, 2007

Bill Belichick defenses have built their reputations attacking the offensive strength of opponents. Take San Francisco legend Joe Montana, for example. In three games against the Giants with Belichick as defensive coordinator, Montana put just 19 points on the board and was twice knocked out of the game."
