When you think about it, they fit all of the criteria that would make a good halftime show. First, they have mainstream appeal/widespread audience and are easily recognizable. More importantly, no matter what you think about them, they're better than half of the crap out today and would put on a kick ***** show while not being too heavy.

Maybe they've been asked and declined.

I wish Kurt Cobain would come back from the dead so Nirvana would do a halftime show. That would be epic :rocker:

I'm sure they'll get a call when Dave Grohl is old, fat and slow, probably around SB 67

Because the people that can afford to pay for the tickets (usually corporate types in their 50-60's) don't know who the foo fighters are, like me.

Oh come on now...black eyed peas last year were horrible and these old farts in recent years do nothing for me...with the exception of Prince.

Foo Fighters could be great imo. They have alot of great songs.

Madonna and whoever else will be on that stage this year will probably make me vomit.

It could be that the NFL doesn't deem their music as broad enough to satisfy all types (the BEP last yr were at least more 'dance' /top 40 music as opposed to hard rock), or that the Foo Fighters declined.

I have always wondered why bands like Dave Matthews didn't get a look. Even if you don't care for them, they would probably satisfy the criteria that the NFL is looking for. Successful, well-known, and play a broad type of music that may be appealing to everyone.

And as I said, even if it's not your cup of tea personally--they would likely still satisfy the criteria. Not too hard, not too soft, different instruments, could appeal to young and old alike. One of the better live acts out there, as far as that genre of music goes.

Train or Maroon 5 would be cool.....maybe even Kid Rock,I love his later stuff

The Black Eyed Peas were Horrible, i couldn't watch that trash. But when i day old folks i mean the Old, as in seeing the Rolling Stones back in the day. they ran out of bands like the Stones,The Who, U2 thats why the Peas played. Being and old fart myself i thought the Peas and the FF were contemporaries.

Not sure about Train, as I don't know if they're actually considered "successful enough," with multiple radio hits, but I think you're on the right track with the latter 2.

Either one are my type of thing, but I think Maroon 5 would be the kind of band that would represent the NFL well, and appeal to a broad type of audience.

While we obviously know that bands like the Stones and The Who were extremely successful in many areas (pioneering rock in some ways), I am not sure that they wanted to continue the "older" types of bands; at least every single yr anyway.

The Who absolutely sucked, and made complete fools out of themselves. They were an incredible band, but they looked silly out there a couple of yrs ago.

I also agree that the BEP looked silly too, but they at least appealed to a younger/newer generation and played top 40 kind of hits.

Imagine hearing this at a SB(Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit)....

...Link is a You tube Vevo link. So there is a 15 to 30 second commercial...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg&feature=related

...And after linking to Vevo, Kurt Cobain offed himself again.

Would not mind hearing Mumford and Sons or even Jay-Z. Sadly we get Madonna.....

Ugh, the NFL half time show sucks..

...Please NFL if you are going to go old bring back Paul Mccartney or Tom Petty..

Please..don't bring up the Tom Petty show again.

All I remember is hearing "Runnin' down a dream" during SB 42.

But yeah, you have a good point.

It's about the t.v. audience, not the crowd, so I don't think the age of the people actually in attendance matters...

I think it's probably more about the people in charge of this are totally out of touch

Foo Fighters would work I think

Nirvana would not have worked because even though they are extremely popular their type of music doesn't really fit in with a somewhat celebratory event

I do think Nirvana is probably the most overrated band of all time but thats not why I wouldn't choose them, some of my favorites wouldn't be appropriate either (Pearl Jam, Tool etc.)

you need stadium rock or Rock with an up tempo feel, like some of the follwoing:

Muse
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
foo fighters
the White Stripes
Neil Young
My Morning Jacket (maybe in ten years when more people realize how awesome they are)
Daft Punk (how sweet would that be?)
Dave Matthews Band

I am willing to trade Justin Beiber, Robert Pattinson and the Jonas Brothers for Kurt Cobain!

Metal will never be played at halftimeshows sadly :(

muse - is more of a cult following, not really mainstream imo
RHCP - maybe
foo fighters - probably
the white stripes - broke up I thought, i'm pretty sure they got divorced anyways, jack has a new band
neil young - i dont think would really appeal for the SB (then again neither does maddona imo)
daft punk - this isn't tron
dave matthews band - probably

I don't know. It's hard to tell what they're aiming for, we've had Tom Petty, The Who, Prince, Bruce Springstein, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and now Madonna for the older performers theme in 7 of the last 8 SB's.

edit: lol, as i was looking up the list of performers i noticed that Tron was actually the theme for last years half time show, maybe when the next movie comes out they'll get Daft Punk after all.

I am sure a naked Flea would go down well with the NFL.
