ProFootballWeekly.com - A different view of Belichick

Hub Arkush said:
The first time I met Bill Belichick was New Year's Eve day 2002, in a cemetery in Saddlebrook, N.J. There was nowhere else in the world I could have been that day. But less than 48 hours after his defending world champion Patriots had lost an AFC East tiebreaker and a chance to enter the playoffs and defend their title, Belichick chose to drive from New England to honor a fallen friend.

Fantastic.

We're seeing the best and worst of sports journalism this week.

Ain't that the truth. I've read some amazing articles this week, and some disgraceful ones.

Add this heartfelt piece to the small but growing list of factual articles describing the real Belichick as opposed to the numerous "essays" castigating the writers' flawed image of BB.

Sorry JB left us so early on.

I started to get PFW in 77 or 78 when I was about 16 or 17. My local newstand carried it. Then, I started to subscribe to it. I even used to have it mailed to me when I was in the navy. Stationed in Italy, Iceland and San Diego. A couple of my friends thought I was a bookie...LOL...I showed them their state layout, head to head matchup page and Joel's columns of course.

I would get his Scouts Guide each year. I loved his quotes such as;

a. Harder to circumnavigate than the globe
b. looks like tarzan, but plays like jane
c. not on scholarship any longer

I remember reading about Belichick speaking at the Combine. Didn't realize they spoke that often. Joel also did a radio show on KMOX on Sunday Nights. Used to listen to that. I even got to speak to Steve Grogan on it once.
