14-10....uggggggggggggg.
I was thinking it was the 38 for some reason. Either way I don't think it matters that much and the 28 might even give you another shot with more time should they score. I think I might prefer it if they lined up to punt and if everything was right for it went for the fake. I know with the Chung play that's a bit haunting as well.
the other thing about a shorter field 28 as opposed to 40 and more time on the clock, is that the opponent, if they are going to score, will likely score fairly quick thus giving you another possession only down by 1,
. .. so basically by punting there you had an opportunity to get 2 possessions (your 4th down play (pos. 1) and the ball back after they score (pos. 2)) to their 1 possession , it was basically a 2 for 1 deal, not that different you see often times in basketball, within the last minute and a team takes a quick shot with say 30-35 seconds in the game or half, so they can get another possession after the opponents possession (that is with 30-35 secs in the game/half the opponent cant run the clock out [with a 24 sec clock] and unless they get an off rebound, you will get the final possession.
similarly in the 4th and 2 game, had Merriweter gotten the memo and let Addai into the endzone with a minute left, we get the ball back only trailing by 1 witha minute to go . . . couple this will the fact that we had the first oppotrunity with the 4th and 2, this gives us TWO chances to win the game . . .
however, if we punt in that situation, and indy has to start from say their own 30, they will likely burn up that minute to move the ball back to our 28 yard line . . .
so bottom line, altho it didn't happen as addai did not score at the one minute mark buy wayne with seconds to go, the 4th and 2 gave us two opportunitys to win, were as the punt would of only given us one, i,e, stop thier final drive . . .
