Pats 2 Key Aces Up their Sleeve: Faulk and........

Yup, I'll probably get villified here for this, but follow the reasoning.

Jackson has been running better the past few weeks, the groin injury seems to have dissipated.

That front 7 of San Diego will be crowding the box and sending the posse after Brady - - they saw what happened in Miami and against Detroit with the blitzing and they have that style.

Brady is obviously going to have to get rid of the ball very quickly so look for a lot of cuts/slants.......but also a few quick screens to the sidelines. Also, a quick timing pattern deep down the sideline to test the mediocre SD secondary. The scouting reports also say that the SD D has been guilty of over-pursuit at times. End arounds and double reverses (Charlie Weis' faves - to the consternation of us all) may find their way into the Pats game this week.

Jackson is the wildcard in this game. SD does not have much film on him, and here is where the Pats can give themselves some breathing room against 8 in the box.

Along with this, I expect a big game from Kevin Faulk. His backfield blitz pickup is very good and his jitterbug style will complement Maroney's cutting style. I agree with Reiss and Borges (pain>>>>) that Corey Dillon's run style doesn't really match up well with the SD D.

There it is. I was waiting for the weekly "this is gonna be Jackson's breakout game" thread. How naive are you? He hasn't shown anything all year and you still think the big game is going to happen this season! The guy is a bust! etc, etc, etc,....ok, that should be enough villifying for now...

You are correct in thinking that the soft SD secondary will be tested by our WR's early and often. Who and how remains to be seen.

I like it! Especially the point that there is not much film on CJ and that he seems to be without any injuries. Hopefully he has an amazing game that will more than make-up for his game in the regular season.

Matching Branch's numbers would have been an incredible stretch since CJ missed all of training camp. However, he has been noticeably running better the past 3-4 weeks and it's obvious McDaniels has developed a few plays specifically for him and his physical advantages.

Not in general, but for this specific game- - against this specific D (and the particular problems they pose to our OL), while Graham will probably be held back more for blocking and Watson still doesn't seem 100% from his knee injury - - I see this as a particular game and situation where CJackson could be the ace up the sleeve for the Patriots.

I may be way off here, but against this specific D, he could be an important changeup. Brady is going to have to throw quickly. His other receivers are possession type guys. Only one Pat WR out there is a physical freak who can out-battle defenders for a jump ball - - that is Jackson.

I saw more from CJ last game than all season. People may think I'm batty, but there are a few things we know about a healthy Cj: he's fast quick and has great hands. The only question is his heart, his desire, his commitment. In the Jet game, when he didn't get a pass interference call, he was visibly angry, frustrated, showing some fire on the field. This told me that he cares, he wants to help the team, and his lack of impact is bothering him. Brady has been very complimentary of him the past two weeks, for "finding his role". I think he will work hard this offseason, and he will take steps to reach his potential. I continue to be confident that in time he will be a tremendous receiver. Every quality pre-draft scouting report on Jackson cautioned patience:

Profootballweekly: "Only 20 years old and has tremendous potential... Jackson may need some time before he is ready to contribute. Should develop into a solid starter by year 3 and will likely require some patience."

nfldraftscout: "Another year of school would have been beneficial, as he is not exactly ready for primetime at this stage of his development..."

Patience with Jackson will yield major dividends... if he contributes in any significant way in this game it will be a pleasant surprise.

Define "You guys" - - this is the first time I have said this.

You can't compare this to any other time this season. He seems healthier than any other time this season and he has more of a comfort level than earlier. How can you compare this to the Cincy game or Indy game? You can't - - he wasn't as healthy and hadn't had as much practice reps then. It's pretty simplistic to say "Well, since he didn't do anything when he was hurt, he can't do anything now" - - that's a Tony Masarotti-type mentality.

I'm not saying Chad will break out here, but isn't the definition of a breakout game a game where you haven't done much at all then boom, you make a lot of plays? You would have said the same thing about no production from David Thomas, then he comes out of nowhere and has a big game against Jax. Gaffney had 140 yards all year before last week! The Pats will need to do something unexpected to beat SD. I don't know what that unexpected thing will be, but throwing CJ at them wouldn't be a bad idea.

On a side note, this is a great example of why Boston is such a tough place to play. Just because there was some stupid rumor when we drafted him that "Chad will replace Deion," and he hasn't produced much as a second rounder, he is automatically a bust. Real fair

I think if jackson can give one big catch that will fulfill my expectations.

Also he was only in for 3 plays last week. On;y 3 plays. it will be interesting if he is in for more this week.

and it will be itneresting if he draws cromatie.

I think it's what he does when he's on the field. Even if he isn't thrown to he may draw a safety to him leaving a one on one match up for watson, caldwell or gaffney. if he is left in single coverage then you ahve to give it a shot a few times. plus if he goes deep he'll open up underneath stuff and also force san diego to go to nickel package at times depending on how many recvr's are on the field.

His first season is a bust. I think it's equivalent to Cadwell's first several games. he'll do alot better having an entire season healthy. by season 3 i think he'll be a solid 50-65 catches.

Their one weak link is that secondary. The only question is how can we get to that secondary when either:
a) The front 7 will be piled on top of Brady within 2 seconds
b) Graham and/or Watson-Thomas will have to block on the line alot
or
3) Brady is going to have to throw alot of sideline screens and quicklob go patterns in this game just to get at that secondary.

On those particular plays (#3) why wouldn't the Pats have CJackson in there for those situations?
