I'm sure it's not much of anything, but ever since the 2006 AFCCG I get very nervous when "illness" starts showing up on the participation/injury reports before a big game...

I don't know why they wouldn't be either, but you do realize that the flu shot would protect them against less that 1% of the common viruses that could get someone sick, right?

I still say the same thing to this day.
I remember hearing that many of the ayers had the flu leading up to the AFCCG.... including Vince Wilfork
You could see how exhausted and sick he was on the sidelines.

Perhaps it's because the flu shot is basically useless, particularly for those who are not very young or very old, and can have problematic side effects.

Eli had the "stomach bug" a few days before playing the 49ers. It's only Tuesday, if Light is truly sick he's sitting in the training room with an IV in his arm taking fluids in.

With proper attention there are very few things that keep you out of commission for more than a day. It will probably all be out of his system by morning and he'll be a full participant in practice listed as "questionable" like everyone else on the injury report.

Crap. (Literally!). Yeah, norovirus is going around like gangbusters in MA. And it's incredibly contagious -- as few as 10 viruses is enough to infect you. This is getting too close to the 2006 AFCCG for my comfort.

And NESN says Mayo has a cold (hopefully only that) and that Light and Vollmer "are dealing with illness". If Light has a stomach virus, then Vollmer probably does to. If this goes through the whole OL it'll suck.

The slightly positive side is that it's Tuesday and the worst of norovirus is over in 24-48 hours. So if they're gonna get it, please let them get it now so they can be recovered by Sunday.

Very rampant right now in Rhode Island ... probably Mass also. It's either mild or severe ... most people make the run once or twice ... but some are making the run for the usual 12 hours or so. The mild version wears you down for 2 days without massive caffeine.

Yes, but it's not like everyone's going to come down with it the same day and then get over it. Some other players will probably come down with it tomorrow, then others on Thursday, and so on. So yeah, the people who get it today or tomorrow will be in pretty good shape by Sunday, but the ones who get it Friday or Saturday won't be.

Perhaps it's because the flu shot is basically useless, particularly for those who are not very young or very old, and can have problematic side effects.

It is not 'basically useless' and the side effects are only very mild flu like symptoms the day of the injection. The problem is that epidemiologists have to choose which strains to defend so they pick the four most prevalent strains people have been affected with for that year. While the chances are low, if you get a rare strain that you weren't immunized against, you can still come down with it.
