"And don't forget the time he went to Willie McGinest and said, 'Hey Willie, if you were on the offensive line and I yelled, 'Screen left!' which way would you block?' Willie said, 'I'd go left.'

"Bill said, 'Well damn, that's right. See, Light? Even a defensive guy knows which way to block."

classic........

A very rare glimpse into how BB really works. Really enjoyed reading that.

Jackie is good, what is the deal? She seems to be at the same level, why is she not going up the ladder?

She really does her work before writing and I love that. When reading her articles, she brings the people to life. You can almost see their faces talking to her. I loved the bit about Vrabel. I never quite appreciated how he might have felt after the trade. Now I know very well. Damn, BB can be cold, I am not cut for this type of business.

That really was one of the most insightful things ever to appear at ESPN concerning BB. He has to be riding them hard this week, too. His cheerful demeanor at the podium yesterday belies a cold steely perfectionist, slowly moving his troops into position to charge toward the mountaintop.

"As you can see," the Belistrator pointed out, "Randy is wide open. The defense let him go. Not that we can hit him, though. Right, Tom?"

Good stuff

That was a nice read. Maybe jackie mac has taken a page out of BB's book and reads her Assante Samuel, "Get Paid" column to herself once a week. :D

In the first segment of the story, was she actually there in the film room? watching Ihedigbo's reaction? or is that just a writing technique to draw me in?

excellent read, thank you for posting.

That was great, and the comments from Vrabel were really interesting. It's good to hear that he no longer takes issue with the trade to KC. I would love to see him here as a defensive coach.

Best thing I've read from here in a long time. Just sent it to my boss, and then thought maybe that wasn't the best idea I've had today :D

Do you think BB could but too much pressure on players not to be the one to repeat a mistake?

Rex Ryan : "Sanchez...you all-pro in my book!"

Agreed, very interesting stuff from Vrabel.

That they didn't talk for 2 years was a little surprising. He was obviously hurt by the move. I'm glad they were able to move past it.

Not at all, there are teams that still have a 'star system' culture that takes the pressure and accountability out of the equation.

one of the best articles of the last decade:cool:

Yes but I think that's what BB wants. He wants a team that is just as mentally tough as they are physically.

There is footage of BB miked up I think it was back in 2009, when they were playing against the Saints. BB was talking to Tom on the sideline and made a comment about how he can't get these players mentally tough. Faulk made a comment about it after the famous 4th and 2 against Indy.

This is a tactic to weed out the players that can't handle the mental aspect of situational football. If you are mentally tough, you can handle the criticisms, identify your weaknesses, and work on them to improve yourself. You do you think that players from the Pats go elsewhere and the majority of them aren't as successful as they were when they played for the Pats? I think this plays a major part in that.

That's just literary license to draw you in, as you say. Of course she was not there. She is just reconstructing the situation based on her interviews.

Yeah. I never got the KC trade of Vrabel. I'm glad he's over it.

As for Vrabel in the NFL, I don't think he'll jump to the NFL unless his best friend, Luke Fickell is still a coach for Ohio State.

Not sure if he sold his home in Mass but he has a home in Powell, Ohio (could be Dublin, Ohio too...not sure).

My favourite quote ....
The Belistrator loves to run a particular play when center Dan Koppen is supposed to be cleaning up the pocket, but is unable to make contact.

"We're waiting, Dan," Belichick delights in saying as the film runs. "Still waiting … still waiting …"

"Coach," Koppen finally responded after two years of seeing clip, "no matter how many times you show this, I'm still not going to get there."

"Anybody, Dan? Anybody? Can you just hit somebody?" chortled Vrabel, in his best Belistrator voice. "That's one of my favorites.
