Don't tell the SD fans they believe they have been battered by an unbelievable rash of injuries and that is the root cause of their defense's average totals for Team stats.

That is what is funny about people bringing up the 3 point SB wins. If the same team that took the field for week 1 took the field for the SB, those games wouldn't have been close.

This regime's greatest accomplishment may very well be their ability to remain competitive despite injuries, year after year after year.

Poor Jets and Cowboys, near the top of this list yet go one-and-done in the playoffs.

Very interesting. It endorses our spread the CAP $$ so we have a deep number of players/ rep[lacement parts. But why so many breakdowns?? Age??
BB starts a lot of smart veterans; they may be more subject to injury.

thanks a lot for posting! what really intrigues me is the lack of correaltion between injury losses and the Pats' recent SB wins.

What I found interesting was this year's stats. Pat only had 5 starters that played all 16 games! That is the lowest of any playoff team. And we lost a total of 46 games due to injury, one of the higher numbers amongst playoff teams. As a comparison, Indy lost 49 games to injury (of which 16 was the non football injury to Simon), 3 more than the Pats, but they had 12 starters that played all 16 games.

Speaks volumes for the Pats ability to insert the back up and not miss a beat. 53 players all with multiple skills. Teamwork is job one.

This is a good list, but I have a question about there being only 2 starters on IR for the Patriots.

My reading of this list is that it applies to starters. In other words, in this article, it states the Pats have lost 46 man-games to starters.

According to Mike Reiss, in an earler column last month, the Pats have endured over 180 man-games lost due to injury. (Remember, just because you're injured doesn't mean you go onto the IR.)

So, given that, I think that's even more remarkable.

Yes, Teamwork is Job #1 on this team!

What I thought was even more impressive were the numbers for the past Super Bowl winners. Notice how the 2003 and 2004 Pats SMOKED their counterparts. Not surprising, as we all knew the amount of injuries in those years (2005, too):

Although 21 is still far from impressive, I think those numbers are misleading. The Pats use the term "starter" very loosely. The starters at WR were different almost every game, so how do they measure it? Also, Chad Scott and Ellis Hobbs were interchangable at starting CB for awhile. Both of them missed games, but are they both counted, or are neither of them counted? I would just be interested to see how the numbers were put together. Pats injuries are pretty spread out from top to bottom.
