I think it will hurt them a little. They were on a roll and this might slow the momentum slightly which works to our favor. I think if we played this Sunday - we would have been at a huge disadvantage.

In any case - I have a very positive feeling about the outcome of the game next Sunday. I think TB will be on his game and the fact that we are getting another chance to right a wrong done to us 4 years ago - that will be a big motivating factor. Very rarely does one get a chance at revenge/redemption and we have one now. Win it and the Tyree catch will be history.....

Go PATS!

Pats - 31
Giants - 20

Works both ways. Pats are on a 10 game win streak, no? Last loss was to.... the Giants?

I trust that both coaches will keep the team even keeled and the Giants have more members on the roster who have been to a SB than the Patriots. I don''t think there's any more motivation needed, this is why they keep score and play.

The 2007 Colorado Rockies come to mind.

There was no question that the Pats in 07 had the worst possible two week bye in NFL history. The media pressure and time to hear about how great they were and about 19-0 and was simply the killer.

Oh and the Tyree catch WILL NEVER GO AWAY, even with a loss. The Perfect Season will never be completed.

Agreed man, I don't even care about this game. If we win the first thing that will come to mind will be "damn we should have held on to Sheli when we had the chance."

No kidding. It's not about revenge, it's about winning another title.

Pats lost two straight after their bye week this year (Steelers, Giants), so I'd say it's a wash.

If you asked the vast majority of Patriots fans in 2007 if they would have preferred a Super Bowl victory with multiple losses to an undefeated season with the chance of winning a Super Bowl at the end, they would have taken the SB victory. I know because I was here and there was a poll asking precisely that.

I agree with you that it won't be revenge but on the other hand, a SB victory here salves the wound, and the wound wasn't about lost perfection, it was about a lost Super Bowl.

didnt hurt them last time

Last time was different and we were the heavy heavy favorites and teh hot team. If we played the Giants after just one week - who knows - we might have rolled over them.

In any case - this is a 50/50 game and not sure how anyone can say the Giants are this great team. Yes they have won a few really good games but so have we and let's remember.....

1) Did anyone give Tebow (the QB that isn't) a chance against the vaunted Steelers? Nope

2) Did anyone give the Giants a chance against us in 2007. Nope

3) The Superbowl where the Steelers won against the Seahawks - if the refs were not one sided in that game - the Seahawks would have won.

4) Did anyone give the Jets any chance last year when they beat us in the playoffs when in the same season we trounced them 45-3?

5) Did anyone think that neither the Saints nor the Packers would be in the NFCCG?

So to say we have no chance is just not fair. I think for us PAT fans its the fear of losing to the "GIANTS" vs any other team in the Superbowl. I would rather face the Giants than the Packers or the Saints. Even with the 49ers - they would have had a good chance to beat us IMHO. Also - if we were to lose - imagine losing to the Alex Simith led 49ers. Atleast with Eli - losing to him and the Giants - as bad as it would be - would not be a shock.

Just heard on the radio the ESPN NY guys were saying that the Giants didn't want to see the PATS because SB 42 is the last fresh memory and they do not want to change that - esp if they end up losing in SB 46. They also would have preferred to play someone else just not to touch the SB 42 lasting memory. Winning on Feb 5th will not only get us the 4th title but will also exorcise the demons of SB 42 especially against the Giant fans. They will never be able to bring up SB42 again as we beat them in the most recent one which will be the freshest memory. We don't get chances in life to fix something that went horribly wrong. This is the time. This is it. We gotta do it!

What an informative post! This little known nugget will surely add a lot to the conversation!

Really, douchebag, at least keep your little jabs in line with the topic at hand. Thanks.

I kind of feel like the Giants are playing w/ house money in this one. They're pretty lucky to be here, and already have a SB win against the Pats. If they lose, it's just 1-1 in the Eli era.

The Pats have a little more pressure, imo. Losing twice to the Giants in the big one would be part of the legacy (which will still be a great legacy).

A couple of early breaks the Giants way will wreak some havoc on the Patriots psyche. Conversely, a close game in teh 4th probably favors the Pats.

You are clearly a fan of the wrong NY NFL team. Ask one of your cubicle mates who you are best fit to be rooting for. You will find your true internet home with a little support.

Nope. They've been playing for 13 weeks straight and just finished an extremely physical game that went to OT. An extra week off to rest and plan is much more advantageous to them than to the Pats.

Step 1: Never post here again.
Step 2: Refer to step 1.

Could happen; the Pats have the O to do it, and if Eli has one of his "pick" games, it could open the door.

When I was growing up, blowouts in the SB were the rule. The past decade+ has been so much more enjoyable, though. I think this game will probably be more of a nailbiter, consistent w/ so many of the recent ones...
