9-7 record, tough schedule, blah, blah, blah. Nothing elite about a 9-7 record.
Same QB who threw 25 pics to Brady's 4 in 2010. Same QB who has 55 less wins and 15 more losses than Brady. Same QB whose only playoffs wins came in 2007 prior to this year. Even in 07 SB he did his best to throw away the game but the Pats secondary wanted the loss more. Insulting to Brady to even mention them in the same breath.

All that moronic Tebow hype has moved on to Elisha.

And Elisha is his real name just like his pappy, Elisha Archie.

I would have to agree. Calling Eli an ELITE quarterback is like calling my Camry a well tuned race car. Eli is clutch, not ELITE.

I can explain it. He's really good and this year has been incredibly clutch.

Eli is clutch, not ELITE.

He's also VERY lucky, how often do you see him just throw a ball up into double coverage only for his receiver to make a circus catch or the DB drops an easy pick...or as seen on Sunday the DB's run into each other.

Can someone explain why insulting a man by feminizing his name is still cool in 2012?

And the feminizing thing doesn't really fly to well after the beating Eli took this past weekend, while still making plays.

Comes from the largest media market, so there are many avenues to extol how great he is... so if you repeat a lie over and over again, from many different souces then "poof" the magic happens.. he becomes elite.

OTOH the media does not have to tell me he is a pretty good qb, he passes the eyeball test.

He's had a great January, no doubt. And for the season his QB rating is at the top of the non stud QB.

However, his TD/INT for the season is a mediocre 29/16. Anything below 2/1 is decidedly mediocre. Even with Brady's INT fest early in the season his is 39/12, better than 3/1.

Moving on to the second half of the season Manning's TD/INT is a horrendous 14/10. While Brady's is 19/2.

Again, Manning has been excellent in January and with only one game left to play that could be all that matters if he stays hot. His season, though, and his second half especially, points to a QB who could have a bad game as easily as he could have a good one.

He'll never be "elite" with a face like an inbred yokel from Mayberry.

Eli is a top 5 QB.....that it without question

If you asked me 5 years ago or so if he was,I would laugh at you and tell you that you are crazy, but the past several years Eli has elevated his play.

It's...

Brady
Peyton
Rodgers
Brees
Eli/Roethlisberger tied for 5th

IMO

That's a really fair assessment, and I agree w/ those rankings.

As for "elite," everyone has a different definition. "Elite" to me means one of the top in their profession...not necessarily the very best, but in the group at the top, assuming a top, middle, and bottom. He's in that group.

Brady
Brees
Rodgers
Stafford
Romo

are my top five.

Eli is solidly in a group with Ryan, Schaub, Rothlisberger, Cutler, Rivers, etc.

Top Five is absolutely in question.

29 TD's, 16 picks, 4933 yards, and a rating of 92.9 will certainly inflame the NY media. He is 4th among NFL QB's this season in yards, ahead of Aaron Rogers. He's tied for 6th in TD's with Ice Ice Baby, and his QB rating is 7th in the NFL.

I am no fan of Manning, but it's not to hard to see that in a year of pass happy offenses, he's among the top QB's in the league. I would rate him in that "second group" behind TB12, Peyton, Brees, and Rogers. I would also say of that next group (Rivers, Romo, Big Ben, Ice), Manning is certainly worthy of the most respect.

He's no Tebow...the guy can play the position at a high level.

Yeah, but see after the first 4 it's a fairly sharp decline. I agree I would likely have to rank Eli at 5 or 6, but that's because everything after him to measure him by is pretty poor.

I find this thread embarrassing. A site that can be HONEST about an opponent -- even a Manning -- and acknowledge that Eli has taken an enormous step forward this season is the kind of site Ian started. This is so disappointing to read. Just homeristic and unreasonably negative. This isn't jetsinsider, people.

You can't be serious with Romo and Stafford in there. Romo makes so many boneheaded decisions in pressure situations and this is Staffords' first year being healthy throwing bombs to Megatron. Eli should be in the top 6 along with Rothlisburger, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, and Brady.

Eli and Ben are both clutch QBs. They've both proven themselves in the biggest stage.

It wasn't too long ago when our QB didn't have all the gaudy statistics like Peyton had, but we argued that he was a better player because he performed in the clutch.

Sorry you didn't like the numbers.

Less than 2/1 INT/TD on the season and 1.4/1 in the second half is what it is. He had a good season and a great post season so far. That doesn't make him a top five QB.

Give me a break, it's about the over the top praise he's getting. He's a good QB and he plays in NY, it's about the hype. He's not elite and he's not on Brady's level. I am being honest an opponent. He's not any better than Rothlisbegrer, Rivers, Schaub etc.
