Maybe the whistle blew early but this guy is sore loser IMO. He blew off the fox reporter after the game for an intvw and people criticised bb for his interview after 2006. He didnt speak to coughlin after the game. His coaching staff blew it by not telling their punt returner to fair catch it in a critical game after it started raining and with a turnover already on ST and now he comparing it to tuck rule...

"We blew the whistle" is starting to become a blemish for the league.

While I understand that nothing can be done about it, they need to to be able to replay those critical plays also. In my opinion, the replay showed the ball out way before the ref blew the whistle.

As far as Harbaugh goes, he has already developed a reputation for being quite an ********* in the head coaching circle.

Not only the coaching circle, he was a jerk when he was playing for the Colts. We used to call him Hairball.

Excuse my laziness, but I think you can find plenty of info right from the get-go, or the start of his head coaching at SF this yr.

There was the story from at the coaches meetings in the off-season where he was already pretty cokcy, stating that he "didn't have to do any interviews" when some of the mediots asked for his opinions.

Then there was the preseason game with the Saints, where Sean Payton called ahead and asked what they should 'work on' in the preseason game. In other words, many HC's use the preseason games (especially the early ones, games one and two) to use it as more of a scrimmage type setting. Not only did Harbaugh refuse to take part in such nonsense, he actually didn't even show enough respect to even return a SB winning HC's phone call or message.

Then there was the infamous DET/SF game, when he ran by and acted like a jerk, pumping his fists after the win, causing the DET coach to really get annoyed and frustrated. After all, he didn't just win the SB, he could've acted with a little more class.

These are just 3 examples that I could think of off the top of my head, but refusing to shake Coughlin's hand (another famous SB winning coach who is well-respected in the coaching circles) is example #4.

I'm sure there are more than these 4 examples, but I'm telling you the truth. It's not just speculation, he is gaining a reputation as being very cokcy in only his first yr in the league.

what i dont understand is why the whistle is blown so quickly for the giants but for the pats, ravens, and 9ers, they let the guys play it out even if forward progress is obviously stopped, like one time there were 4 guys on the ravens but still no whistle, and a gang tackle on the pats didn't get a whistle.

They are inconsistent in blowing the whistle but the ball carrier was clearly wrapped up and wasnt gaining any more yardage in this case, if the forward progress is stopped but the guy with the ball still has a chance to break free and gain more yardage thats different.
By Harbaughs logic the ball should be placed where the ball carrier hits the ground and not his forward progress.

Well that was enough for me, this guy just went down in my "Don't Like" books. Thanks for summing him up. He looks like an angry pri** too.

I'll never forget seeing Schwartz mouthing out "wtf" in the slow motion replay after the handshake.

I don't get that vibe at all honestly and his players say the complete opposite. The atmosphere he creates for his team appears to be very welcomed. I like Harbaugh and think he deserves Coach of the Year. I would be really pissed too if I was him. I actually saw three other huge reasons during the Championship games where instant replay can be a total joke.

For one, some Ravens fans were complaining about the Patriots defender knocking the ball out. I watched the slow motion video, and luckily there was no case in what I could see. Not even when slowing it down to half a second intervals was his foot down before the ball got knocked out.

But people then started talking about NANOseconds. WTH? If they actually started looking at NANOseconds in plays, there would be a reverse or a flag on every single play in football.

Likewise, the forward progress whistle was bull, but more so the ball touching his players' knee. The on field call was correct imo, even though it clearly scraped his knee. The player wasn't attempting to touch the ball. He was obviously doing his best to avoid touching it and the ball bounced into and barely touched his knee.

That changed everything. A play like that to cost you the AFC Championship after all the work, sweat and blood you put into a season it's just not right. That's not how football games should be won, that's not what it needs to come down to, and that's certainly not what a Championship game should come down to. That's not how it should be used. They need to enforce some limits because now the refs have far too much control.

And if you're going to go that far with it with the 49ers and get THAT picky with it, then why didn't they do this for the Patriots? Which Patriots fan was NOT pissed when the Torrey Smith scored that touchdown?

How in God's name do you endorse reviewing scoring plays yet NOT be able to call that blatant personal foul? HOW? How do you not even mention it?

What the hell? To sit there and show it over and over on national television on not mention a word. The silence for the announcers was deafening for me. It's like they knew.

Where is the consistency with this? How can I take the 49ers decisions seriously when you show me this on a scoring drive over and over and over, at home, at Gillette stadium and nothing gets done about it. I don't even think ESPN is saying anything about it.

What's wrong with comparing it to the tuck rule? I can see the comparisons.

As for the other stuff you mention, who cares? The guy did wonders with that team this year and seems to be a good coach in the making. You really want to criticize him for handshakes and post game interviews? As for the punt return, why would you have him fair catch it when they had been getting good return yardage against the Giants?

The whistle is supposed to be blown when forward progress is stopped. In this case, forward progress was clearly stopped, so the whistle was correct and the call was correct.

Do they always blow the whistle that fast? No, sometimes the refs fail to note stopping of forward progress and mistakenly allow the after-the-play-is-over wrestling match to continue. When they do that, they are making the wrong call.

So, I guess the argument is that if they occasionally blow a call, then they should always blow that call, just to be more consistent? Why not chose to get the call right consistently? They made the right call.

Disclaimer: I was actually cheering for the Niners to win. Harbaugh's whining has certainly made me lose respect for him, though. I guess "once a whiny Colt, always a whiny Colt."

I thought the Tuck Rule was a dead issue because the Jets benefitted from it this year.

If Harbaugh wants to be mad about something, make the league explain "face guarding" in an AFCCG.

I played this back several times, and the whistle wasn't blown until after the ball came out. IMO, there shouldn't even be a "forward progress" rule. The stoppage of play should be determined by the whistle and nothing else. If the whistle is blown early or late, so be it. That would make these plays more reviewable.

well thats a lie. Infact the ref blew the whistle and then the ball came out while he was blowing it and he even stuttered on the whistle.

Pretty cut and dry that it was the right call, forward progress was stopped.

Now if only they called Eli for in the grasp 4 years ago.
