Please use Ochocinco over Edelman in the offense

I'm not defending the premise, because I didn't see Edelman as an issue. However, I will note that Johnson had as many catches yesterday as Slater and Underwood combined.

No question. But of course, Edelman & Slater are locks for the gameday 45 even if they don't play a snap on offense. So it comes down to Johnson vs Underwood for the final WR slot -- or stealing another slot from the defense.

I think it's time for the Patriots to make the move that's been there all season.

Patriots sign Junior Seau and Randy Moss

Patriots line up 3WR/2TE

Moss
Welker
Johnson
Gronk
Hernandez

Seau subs in for Spikes on passing downs and serves as an ILB blitzer.

Profit!

;)

Would prefer Ridley be active and Faulk inactive for this game. Did Faulk even play vs Ravens?

Ocho had just come back from attending his father's funeral so BB may have thought his mind wouldn't be in the game thus inactivating him.

Add Underwood to inactives for this game and activate Ocho.....

Just MHO ;)

Ochostinko and Edelman each had 0 receptions for 0 yards on November 6, 2011 against the NY football Giants at Gillette.

How about we bench them both?

I TOTALLY forgot about his father's passing. It makes a little more sense that he was deactivated now. I now fully expect that he'll be on the active roster for the SB.

I think it would be poetic justice in a sense if the big acquisition who has done nothing all year has the best game of his season on the biggest day of the season. What if Chad shows up and has a monster game? That would be a bonus for this offense.

In what way?

Matt Cassel being a better pro QB than Leinart or Palmer is poetic justice.

Danny Woodhead having a big game against the Jets is poetic justice.

Had the Drew Bledsoe led the Bills to the SB in 2002 after sweeping the NEP twice in the regular season and then for a third time in the playoffs...that would have been poetic justice.

Having someone with great natural talents waste them because he is too busy twittering all day to learn the playbook finally have a decent game because he finnally got around to reading the playbook is not poetic justice.

Ocho playing for his dad, the rest of the team playing for MHK...
We really, really need to get this done.

We all knew one of these was coming. We just knew it. We did not know where it would come from, but we just knew it was coming. Coming from you is the biggest surprise. It's sort of like finding out who had the first case of VD that swept through the barracks.

Junior Seau didn't clue you in to the non-serious nature of the post? :bricks:

I agree with the OP simply because Ocho has better speed and is a longer/taller receiver.

Edelman is best used on short in's and out's, the intermediate seem, or in front or behind the zone-- like most if not all of our receivers.

Look, what I've noticed is that Chad gets open. It may be that he's 3rd or 4th in the progression, or that Brady doesn't trust him to be in the right spot, But he's open most of the time...Usually settled in a zone or flying down the sideline with his hand up because the safety has worked towards Hernandez GronK or Welker...HE GETS OPEN...

Even in the beginning of the year when Ocho was actually targeted in the playcall, he was open most of the time.. Sure he's had a few drops and I'm sure his timing wasn't where Brady wanted it but it wasn't due to lack of ability.

With Gronk likely playing at 75% at the SB, we need a contribution on the outside to keep pace with NY...Something...Whether it's Ocho or Underwood. Deion is only effective on a free release against man and NY likes to play off and press, but will surely press plenty against Branch and Welker.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, very thankful to be in the SB...Extremely thankful... but I guarantee we make a play for Dwayne Bowe, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston, or Brandon LLoyd next year... We desperately need a perimeter receiver who can work the sideline and occasionaly stretch the field.

Maybe a full offseason will give Ocho that ability to develop rapport with Brady and McDaniels, I don't know, but it would be good to see him catch a few balls on February 5th, I really think it can make a difference if we can find a way to get him involved.

6 million dollars...Just make 5 catches in the Super Bowl and It's worth it.

Ochocinco needs to be active because he can stretch the field. It'll open up space in the middle of the field. I do believe that that Slater deep bomb was an Ochocinco play.

I do like Edelman on the offense, Slater though...

Ocho will be active....... I'm sure the only reason he wasn't was because of his father and the fact that he missed walkthrough and other important parts of the week.

Not sure how effective he'll be, but I bet we'll se him more in the SB then in recent games. I think he matches up well against the Giants.

There are some people here who just don't like Edelman and they won't like him if he scored the winning touchdown. The fact is, we are damn lucky to have him. Where else do you find someone who can play CB, WR and punt returner and do them all quite credibly? As for saying Edelman is "not a receiver," that's simply wrong. He just doesn't get much of a chance, since Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, Branch and even Woodhead are targeted more often, not surprisingly. But when he was needed, a couple of years ago, he was a reliable possession receiver. This year, he's been making solid contributions in every game, and yesterday is no exception. He's even a damn good tackler. As for Ochocinco, I really like the guy and I think he has a lot of talent, but it's obvious that BB and Brady don't think he's up to the job any more. But I wonder if the Edelman nay-sayers can just shut up for awhile. They have no facts on their side.

Just as a reminder:

2009 season

Edelman scored his first professional points on August 13, 2009, in a pre-season game with the Philadelphia Eagles returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown, and made the team over former Eagles wide receiver Greg Lewis, for whom the Patriots had given up a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.

Edelman sat out the Patriots' Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills with an ankle injury, but was activated for, and made his first career start in, the Patriots' 16–9 loss in Week 2 against the New York Jets, which was also the first game Wes Welker has missed since Welker became a Patriot in 2007. Edelman led all receivers with eight receptions for 98 yards, and added 38 yards on two kickoff returns and 2 yards on a punt return, for a total of 138 all-purpose yards.

Edelman broke his arm in the Patriots' 59–0 rout of the Tennessee Titans, and did not accompany the Patriots on their trip to London to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At the time of his injury, Edelman was leading all rookies with 21 receptions. He returned for the Patriots' Week 10 game against the Indianapolis Colts, where he scored his first official NFL touchdown on a 9-yard reception from Brady.

When Welker was sidelined for the season after tearing his ACL and MCL against the Houston Texans, Edelman was once again called on to fill Welker's role; Edelman caught 10 of the 15 passes thrown to him for 103 yards, the first 100-yard game of his NFL career. He finished the regular season with 37 receptions for 359 yards and one touchdown.

In the Patriots' Wild Card playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Edelman caught six passes from Brady for 44 yards, including both of the Patriots' touchdowns. Edelman became the first rookie to score two receiving touchdowns in one postseason game since David Sloan did so for the Detroit Lions in the 1995–96 season.

The double teams on Edelman were funny, maybe they thought he was Welker!

Maybe we could try Ocho as a kick returner, our returns have been pretty lame this season.

^^^

I don't think anyone is doubting that Edelman can contribute, but he's limited as to what he can do.

There are things physically that a 6'0 or taller receiver can offer a system that a 5'9 or 5'10 receiver can't.

Edelman and Branch aren't dictating coverage outside, that's my only issue, neither can they stretch the field consistently.

Short areas and intermediate zones, that's where our WR's are most effective.

Edelman gets enough reps on D and special teams.

Edelman is more valuable than Ocho simply because of his defensive and special teams ability.

But Edelman needs to never see the field on offense. There is just no reason for it.

I certainly hope after the Super Bowl the Chad Ochostinko threads will cease to exist.

I'm sure they will, because they moved the day of the Pro Bowl... ;)
