I don't care if Ochocinco runs the wrong routes. Don't throw him the ball. Just have him be a decoy, but don't let Edelman out there. Every time the ball is thrown to Edelman, it's bad news. It seems like 50% of the time, it's either intercepted or very close to being intercepted.

I can understand using Edelman on a running play or very short screen pass, but this guy is not a receiver. And worse, for some reason Brady mistakenly trusts him. I don't have the breakdown, but I'm guessing that when Brady targets Edelman, his passer rating must be close to 20.

Yesterday, Brady throws the ball to Edelman against double coverage, including their best corner! Why!!! The fact that he even drew double coverage with two solid defenders was the victory on that play.

Just run Ochocinco out there on deep plays over the top and use him as a decoy. Obviously Tom doesn't trust him, but we can plainly see that Chad is a better option over Edelman. Chad is a wide receiver. If he can't play the position, he should have been cut long ago. We badly need a veteran presence at that third WR position, even if he can only expect 1-2 targets a game. Chad could also be effective on screen passes.

You guys can flame me all you want about claiming to understand the offense better than Brady/BB. I realize I don't, but I used to want Maroney replaced by BJGE and thought Watson was a brick holding back the offense. I think sometimes the guys develop friendships; Edelman is probably better in practice than he is in the games.

I couldn't agree more.

Ochocinco was wide open most of the game last time the Patriots played the Giants, Brady missed him in the endzone and then over threw him on a number of occasions later in the game.

He showed in that game he can beat the Giants man to man defense they will use, stick him in the game and just have him run a go or deep post all game long even if he doesn't get open he's dragging at least 1 DB down field with him :p

Ocho isn't going to decoy anyone. His career is over because he can't play anymore. Julian Edelman is 10 times more valuable to this team than Ocho is. Plus, he made a great catch yesterday on a 3rd an 9 to keep a drive alive.

I believe that Ocho will be active for the SB and will be used. I don't believe it has anything to do with Edel's effectiveness, or lack thereof, as a receive, though. As someone already pointed out in this very thread, Ocho was open quite a few times against the Giants in the previous meeting. I'm sure the coaching staff will look at that and implement a few plays specifically designed for him. I do not believe the Giants will game plan at all for that.

I will also take it a step further and say that they'll use him because he's just simply more athletic at this point than Deion. I love Branch to no end, but the guy just doesn't have it consistently anymore. What we've seen is that he struggles any time the opposing team employs press coverage for most of the game. I'm willing to bet everything that the Giants will and, if they do, they'll make Branch a non-factor like he was yesterday and even during the season when teams challenged our receivers at the LOS.

I say leave Ocho inactive.

And I am fine with having Edelman sitting on the bench when the offense is on the field as I am being coming more and more convinced he is a better DB than WR. But JE has a role on this team, Ocho is a waste of a roster space.

Who would you deactivate? Faulk, or would that bring back memories of deactivating Troy Brown for SB 42?

WOW.. Of all the things to complain about, you are complain about Brady throwing to Edelman??? Heck and your complaint has really no bearing on Edelman's play, but on Brady's.

I don't really see the issue here. The interception happened because the officials allowed the Ravens to get away with a blatant penalty on the play.

Note that initial contact isn't even made until 5 yards downfield. Then, note that contact is made again further downfield, making it clearly beyond 5 yards.

It was a clear case of illegal contact/pass interference.

Think before you post. If Edelperson is drawing double coverage, that idiocy by the opposing D is a huge opportunity for the QB, what's-his-nme, to exploit. Not by throwing to Edes in that instance but to that "favorite" the open receiver. Back to what made the Pats great.

I like Edelman. He seems to work hard, has some dirty moves when he's carrying the ball and is willing to play a lot of different roles. There is definite value to having him on the roster. But just like the OP, I find myself cringing whenever the ball is thrown his way.

It would be huge if Ocho can find a way to make an impact in the SB. I doubt the Giants are going to be blitzing much and if the last couple games against them are any indication, that certainly won't prevent them from getting pressure. We're gonna need our WRs to win some one on one battles in single coverage. Seemed like they struggled doing the same thing against Baltimore. Ocho even catching 2 balls 20-25 yards down the field would do A LOT to help open up their defense.

I think it would be poetic justice in a sense if the big acquisition who has done nothing all year has the best game of his season on the biggest day of the season. What if Chad shows up and has a monster game? That would be a bonus for this offense.

Agreed, but we all keep thinking that, hence the weekly "Is this the week Chad breaks out?" threads.

If 18 games have come and gone without that breakout game, chances are it's just not coming.

chad was open a lot last time we played the giants... just sayin.. I feel the same way with eldeman , every time Tom goes his way its scares me

At times it looked like we were playing in a living room - no space out there.

I hear you. I was merely throwing that out there because you never really know. I'm hoping he does something to take some pressure off of the other guys. Brady is going to face the heat from the Giants all game long, and he will need as many guys to get open as he can get. Ocho showing up for this game would be HUGE for the offense.

Please use Ocho over Mathew Slatter.

What is it that makes fans think that a receiver who hasn't caught very much this season and was a healthy scratch for the Ravens will be doing much of anything in the S.B.? When do we stop waiting for Ocho to break out? There is one more game to play and it is probably not going to be his breakout game. I've been wating and waiting and waiting. I like the guy but this is not happening. Not now, that's a fantasy.

I'm not defending the premise, because I didn't see Edelman as an issue. However, I will note that Johnson had as many catches yesterday as Slater and Underwood combined.

Chad will score a TD in the SB!!!!
